General Learner Expectations

● 6–5 Describe properties of air and the interactions of air with objects in flight

Specific Learner Expectations

1. Provide evidence that air takes up space and exerts pressure, and identify examples of these properties in
everyday applications.

2. Provide evidence that air is a fluid and is capable of being compressed, and identify examples of these properties
in everyday applications.
Plan for Differentiation/Inclusion Prerequisite Knowledge and Skills
● Students will work in pairs in order to assist each ● Students have completed the first lesson on air
other throughout the experiment pressure as they considered the following:

● The video shown before the experiment will run ○ What air is made up of
through the steps and give students a visual of what is
○ How air pressure affects the weather
expected of them
○ The role of air pressure in everyday life
● A class wide discussion will be held prior to student
completion of their lab questions to ensure there is
student understanding

Activities

1. Students will watch the video which outlines the steps of the experiment and what students are expected to do
to complete it

2. Students will get a balloon and water bottle out

3. Experiment with balloon and water bottle will begin and students will follow the instructions outlined in the
sheet provided

4. When moving onto the water part of the experiment, the class will walk outside to the field in order to avoid
any spills

5. A classwide discussion will occur to check for student understanding prior to the completion of the reflection
questions. Students will conclude that air takes up space and moves as a result of the lab.

6. After completion outside, students will return to the classroom to answer reflection questions on the back of
their lab handout
