BEDMAS Project Instructions:

1. You will create a total of 4-8 BEDMAS word problems, aka clues!

2. These clues will connect together to form a storyline

3. You will check your questions and show your work to ensure they are solvable

4. The answer to each clue should lead to the next one (see example)

5. Look closely at the checklist to make sure you are on track to meet all the
expectations!

On December 8th we will be solving our scavenger hunts in groups of 2-3!

Example questions:
Claire walked to the coffee shop and used BEDMAS to determine how many lattes she
could afford. To figure it out she solved the following problem: 4+ (2 x 6) ÷ 3 =

How to solve:
4+ (2 x 6) ÷ 3
4 + 12 ÷ 3
4+4
=8
Answer: Claire can afford 8 lattes at the coffee shop.

8. Claire then walked to the pet store and tried to figure out how many cats she could
adopt at once. She solved it by doing: 10 - (30 + 6) ÷ 3

* Important to note: the second clue is numbered 8 because that is the answer from the
first clue! This is how you will design your scavenger hunt.
Checklist for Scavenger Hunt: Order of Operations

I created 4-8 BEDMAS word problems. Yes or No

Each problem I created incorporated at least 3 levels of BEDMAS (ex. -, +, x) Yes or No

My word problems connect with each other to form a complete storyline. Yes or No

I used my creativity to make a unique set of questions and a visually pleasing final Yes or No
design.

I used my class time wisely and handed in the project on time. Yes or No

I have checked my word problems, found the correct answer to them, and showed my Yes or No
work.

The answer to each question leads people to a problem numbered with it. Ex. your Yes or No
answer is 8, so the person goes to clue 8 in the school.

I am ready to set up the scavenger hunt clues, and have printed everything off that I need. Yes or No
