Reflection Paper

This course has been one of my favorites that I have taken while at Salt Lake Community

College. Learning about Social Psychology made me think more deeply about my interactions

with other people. I was lucky to be taking this class while also taking an Interpersonal

Communication class, which provided a well-rounded approach on the workings of the human

mind and how we choose to communicate with one another.

Since Psychology is my major, I decided to take this course after feeling pulled in the

direction of a possible minor in Social Work. A Social Psychology class seemed like a good

bridge between those worlds, and I feel more excited than ever to keep learning about how social

groups work effectively, why aggression is so prevalent in our lives, how we are influenced to

conform, and the motivations of those who want to help.

The reflection assignments gave me opportunities to turn inward and think about how the

principles of the course were applicable to my own life. I learned just as much about myself, my

motivations, and my challenges as I did about Social Psychology. The information I learned will

help me continue to heal from my past experiences and have more compassion on those around

me. It will also prove vital in my career goal of being a Clinical Mental Health Counselor to

understand how society impacts those I will be working with.
