SOURCES OF MORAL DECISION MAKING

Sources: SS, Peschke, Gula (Ch 11-14), CCC, CFC

3 areas in FMT: Criteria has 3 areas:

- Good - Sources
- Person - Method
- Criteria - Process

Sources: the Church rely on the sources because She is a recipient of (1) revelation. Since the Church
is a recipient of revelation, She needs to draw from the source. The source is not something abstract
but Jesus of Nazareth. Christianity is not a set of abstract propositions, but Christianity is Jesus of
Nazareth.
“who do you say that I am” is the fundamental question. Thus, we will be indulging of the
identity and mission of Jesus because what is the name but the mission. Therefore, what is webbed
and woven in Christology is Soteriology. The name Jesus means (2) salvation.
Therefore, the sources first of all is the WG. Dei Verbum is 1 of the 4 constitutions of the Vat II.
In it is found what we called revelation - the transmission of revelation and the importance of SS in
the life of the Church. 3 areas of DV: revelation, the transmission of revelation and the importance and
significance of SS in the life of the Church. (Weaving): Later on, Benedict XVI true to the tradition of Vat
II, convoke a synod of Bishops just on the WG, and the product is DV. Thus there are 2 which would
strengthen our resolve that indeed the WG is not simply the Bible but going beyond the confines of
the revealed truth in the written Word is what we called ____ understanding that the Word of God
is not only found in SS but above all in Tradition because it was Tradition that wrote the SS . (3)
Tradition in none other than the living Church.
