Financial Aid Reflection

1. Federal Financial Aid- What are the different types of federal financial aid available to students? How do you apply for federal financial aid? What

benefits do students receive from this type of financial aid?

Grants, work studies, loans, and scholarships are some types of different financial aids available for students provided by the government. Free application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) For the easiest way to apply you can go to fafsa.gov. Students can receive funds to assist them in paying for their post-secondary education.
Tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and transportation are all covered by federal help.

2. State Financial Aid- What are the different types of state aid available to students? How do you apply for state financial aid? What benefits do students

receive from this type of financial aid?

The different types of state aid are grants, scholarships. You can apply for state financial aid through fafsa.gov or through your state's student aid commission. With
state aid which is similar to federal aid students will often receive more than none grants, but work studies programs and loans are also received.

3. School Specific Financial Aid- Which schools did you research? Describe one grant or scholarship that is offered at each school. What benefits do

students receive from this type of financial aid?

I researched Texas Christian University, Spelman College, and Arizona State University
Texas Christian University offers academic scholarships based on your grades in high school and your SAT/ACT scores. You can receive a certain scholarship where
you can either get your tuition paid in full, get 25k per year, or 18k etc.
Spelman College has a scholarship called the Student of Distinction which covers partial tuition and varies between $5,000- $10,000 per year for 4 years
Arizona State University has a scholarship called Pioneer Heritage Scholarship whose purpose is to provide scholarships for incoming freshmen or transfer students
who are active members of the Church.

4. Private Scholarships- Describe two scholarships that you found interesting during your research. What are the benefits of using this type of aid to fund

your education?
One of the two scholarships that I found interesting was the A-1 Auto Transport Scholarship. The benefit is to provide educational assistance to students and it awards
students with either $250, $500, or $1,000. Two would be a niche no essay scholarship, which means you don't have to submit an essay to earn money from the
scholarship. It's more like a raffle where you must apply and they would choose a winner at random, but there are some qualifications such as having strong grades and
a good GPA.
5. Military Financial Aid- Do you or your family plan to or have served in the military? If so, describe at least one military financial aid program that is

available to you? What benefits do students receive from this type of financial aid?
No me nor my family plan on or have served in the military. I have no plans to join the military, but if I did, several of the financial assistance options accessible to me
would be comparable to traditional financial aid. Military student aid, such as the Montgomery GI Bill, is one of the many reasons people enlist in the armed forces.
Enlisting in the military requires a great deal of sacrifice; and as a benefit, the government offers military aid to those who wish to attend school before, during and
after their service
6. Personal Financial Aid Plan- After reviewing the different types of financial aid available to students, what plan do you have for covering the costs of

post-secondary education? Write a paragraph that summarizes the total cost you expect to pay for post-secondary education, the sources of aid you plan to use to cover
these costs, and when and how you plan to apply for each program. You may also need to consider alternate sources of income such as a college fund or savings plan
that has already been set aside.
After researching a variety of financial aid alternatives, my family and I have decided to pursue financial aid to assist with the cost of my post-secondary education.

The total tuition and expenses for the college I wish to attend, Texas Christian University, are around $51,000 per year. That is a significant amount of money for my

family as though I do not have a college fund or savings, therefore I will need to apply for as many grants and scholarships as possible, as soon as possible. I will also

be either getting a work study or job that will aid in taking care of funds. When I applied to the institution and was accepted, I was given $48,000, which works out to

around $6,000 per semester. A semester at this university costs around $25,000, which is not even half of the tuition. I believe that after financial aid, I will have to pay

$37,000+.
