I am Kelly Steiner, and I am a senior at Seton Hill University.

My major is Human
Resources Management. My portfolio is a demonstration of my work over the past year and a
half. I completed three years of study in one year at the Westmoreland County Community
College and then transferred to Seton Hill University. One of my professors at the Community
College suggested that I would benefit from completing a three plus one program here. I am
grateful for his guidance and his faith in my work. I feel that was a tremendous compliment, for
him to suggest this to me. I never thought I would be attending Seton Hill, as I thought it was out
of reach for me. I know differently now. I have maintained a 4.0 and am loving my education
and knowledge that I am gaining. This has been an amazing and eye-opening experience thus far.

The Liberal Arts program has had a huge impact on my life. I believe that the Liberal
Arts curriculum should be mandatory for every college student regardless of major or desired
degree. These courses help you grow into a well-balanced, open minded individual. The program
teaches you how to communicate in all ways, and to dig deep into your thoughts and feelings and
then how to express them. I have personally been profoundly inspired through my studies here at
Seton Hill. I have found a voice inside of me and been able to share my thoughts, feelings, ideas,
and hopes without judgement and without correction. I am learning about more than my future
career, I am learning how to make a change and difference in the world for our today, tomorrow,
and the generations to come. I am much more aware of my decisions, how I live, and how I take
care of the Earth.

Since starting Seton Hill sixteen weeks ago, my eyes have been opened to beautiful
diversity both in class and in the world. I love that in class (online), we are encouraged to
communicate with the other students. It is so refreshing and eye-opening to read how others feel
and think about things. I love writing to them about their thought they share and ideas/dreams
that they have. Isn’t wonderful to know such a diverse group of people in life? I grow from them
and learn from them. They help me think about things differently and keep myself in check.

I have a passion for missionary work, and I am feeling the calling to do more. The more I
read, learn, and study about religion, culture, global awareness, and spirituality, the more that I
am pulled toward God, and toward repairing the brokenness and the forgotten of the world.
I am 43 years old and returning to college after a twenty-two-year break in my schooling.
During which time I started my family and worked full-time gaining a lot of experience working
with people. I love people and helping them in any way that I can. Some of my past college
education and experiences are unavailable to me to include as documentation or photos due to
lack of technology two decades ago. I will, however, be sharing many of those past activities and
assignments that I have participated in under the headings: Use the expressive arts as a mode of
inquiry or expression, express arguments, or main points clearly, in written and oral
communication, communicate in a second language at the introductory college level, and
generate and analyze numerical and scientific data. This portfolio will also reflect the research
papers, essays, VoiceThread’s, and videos that I have engaged in over the past year and a half. I
will include several examples under each heading and a glimpse into my thoughts, feelings, and
education thus far.
