The teacher will ask students to turn in all assignments that they completed throughout the
week if they had not yet turned them in.
Students will gather at their seats and prepare for a review of what was learned this week.
Students will give their attention to the teacher.
The teacher will ask the class if they had any questions about what they learned this week, ask
if they can explain to the class what we did, have an open discussion.
After students were provided a decent amount of time to have an open discussion, students will
be asked to stand up and move to the front of the room. We are going to pretend the room is our
compass. Each student will grab a paper out of a jar with the number on it. The students are to
remember and keep this number for the rest of the lesson. Students with the number one will be
labeled North, Two South, Three East, and Four West.
Students will move to the spot in the room that is correct for the direction they received.
Students will be asked to complete a sentence verbally within their group using their direction
for example: The plant is at the South part of the room.
The teacher will gather students back to the front of the room. The teacher will ask how we can
use these terms for our community and the places inside of it. We can look at a map of our town
and know the park is North from the school, The hospital is West from the park. We use these
terms to help guide us especially when we are driving.
Students will get back into groups with their number. This time, we will be using positional
words. Students will be given two positional words per group, along with paper and a pencil.
Students will think together and create a sentence using their words.
One person in the group will share with the class at the end.
Students will be asked to identify what state we live in, what city are we in? Can you name other
cities inside our state?
Students will be asked to ask questions.
