Subject-verb agreement means that a subject and its verb must be both singular and

both plural: A singular subject takes a singular verb. A plural subject takes a plural verb.
Subjects and verbs must agree in number. In addition to the explanations on this page,
also see the post on Subject—Verb Agreement.
If the subject is singular, the verb must be singular too.
Example: She writes every day.
Exception: When using the singular "they," use plural verb forms.
Example: The participant expressed satisfaction with their job. They are currently in a
managerial role at the organization.
If the subject is plural, the verb must also be plural.
Example: They write every day.
Sometimes, however, it seems a bit more complicated than this.
When the subject of the sentence is composed of two or more nouns or pronouns
connected by and, use a plural verb.
Example: The doctoral student and the committee members write every day.
Example: The percentage of employees who called in sick and the number of
employees who left their jobs within 2 years are reflective of the level of job satisfaction.
When there is one subject and more than one verb, the verbs throughout the sentence
must agree with the subject.
Example: Interviews are one way to collect data and allow researchers to gain an in-
depth understanding of participants.
Example: An assumption is something that is generally accepted as true and is an
important consideration when conducting a doctoral study.
When a phrase comes between the subject and the verb, remember that the verb still
agrees with the subject, not the noun or pronoun in the phrase following the subject of
the sentence.
Example: The student, as well as the committee members, is excited.
Example: The student with all the master’s degrees is very motivated.
Example: Strategies that the teacher uses to encourage classroom participation include
using small groups and clarifying expectations.
Example: The focus of the interviews was nine purposively selected participants.
When two or more singular nouns or pronouns are connected by "or" or "nor," use a
singular verb.
Example: The chairperson or the CEO approves the proposal before proceeding.
When a compound subject contains both a singular and a plural noun or pronoun joined
by "or" or "nor," the verb should agree with the part of the subject that is closest to the
verb. This is also called the rule of proximity.
Example: The student or the committee members write every day.
Example: The committee members or the student writes every day.
The words and phrases "each," "each one," "either," "neither," "everyone," "everybody,"
"anyone," "anybody," "nobody," "somebody," "someone," and "no one" are singular and
require a singular verb.
Example: Each of the participants was willing to be recorded.
Example: Neither alternative hypothesis was accepted.
Example: I will offer a $5 gift card to everybody who participates in the study.
Example: No one was available to meet with me at the preferred times.
Noncount nouns take a singular verb.
Example: Education is the key to success.
Example: Diabetes affects many people around the world.
Example: The information obtained from the business owners was relevant to include in
the study.
Example: The research I found on the topic was limited.
Some countable nouns in English such as earnings, goods, odds, surroundings,
proceeds, contents, and valuables only have a plural form and take a plural verb.
Example: The earnings for this quarter exceed expectations.
Example: The proceeds from the sale go to support the homeless population in the city.
Example: Locally produced goods have the advantage of shorter supply chains.
In sentences beginning with "there is" or "there are," the subject follows the verb. Since
"there" is not the subject, the verb agrees with what follows the verb.
Example: There is little administrative support.
Example: There are many factors affecting teacher retention.
Collective nouns are words that imply more than one person but are considered singular
and take a singular verb. Some examples are "group," "team," "committee," "family,"
and "class."
Example: The group meets every week.
Example: The committee agrees on the quality of the writing.
However, the plural verb is used if the focus is on the individuals in the group. This is
much less common.
Example: The committee participate in various volunteer activities in their private lives.
Punctuation fills our writing with silent intonation. We pause, stop, emphasize, or
question using a comma, a period, an exclamation point or a question mark. Correct
punctuation adds clarity and precision to writing; it allows the writer to stop, pause, or
give emphasis to certain parts of the sentence.
Punctuation is the system of signs or symbols given to a reader to show how a
sentence is constructed and how it should be read. Sentences are the building blocks
used to construct written accounts. They are complete statements. Punctuation shows
how the sentence should be read and makes the meaning clear.

PERSUASIVE ESSAY

As we go deeper and experience the so-called COVID-19 pandemic, we

encountered many challenges that changed our life. Finances became our first
priorities. With this experience, every individual determined the importance of water and
health advocacies which includes safety health protocols. It is required to practice
proper hand washing, wearing of facemask and physical distancing. I observed that
many people were also affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially here in our
Barangay, which is in Gamuton. Individuals here said that amidst the pandemic, they
were facing health issues. There are a total population of 2,987 people in Barangay
Gamuton and 353 people serves as the representative for the health advocacy activity
and fitness event in our community. It is much better to respect their privacy, because
privacy is not something that merely entitled to, it’s an absolute prerequisite.
The COVID-19 pandemic means that many of us are staying at home and sitting
down more than we usually do. It’s hard for a lot of us to do the sort of exercise we
normally do. It’s even harder for people who don’t usually do a lot of physical exercise.
But at a time like this, it’s very important for people of all ages and abilities to be as
active as possible. Regular physical activity benefits both the body and mind. It can
reduce high blood pressure, help manage weight and reduce the risk of heart disease,
stroke, type 2 diabetes, and various cancers - all conditions that can increase
susceptibility to COVID-19. Regular physical activity can help give our days a routine
and be a way to stay in contact with family and friends. It’s also good for our mental
health, reducing the risk of depression, cognitive decline and delay the onset of
dementia - and improve overall feelings
Globalization has contributed to health improvements through diffusion of new
health knowledge, low-cost health technologies, and human rights. Economic
globalization based upon a neoliberal model of liberalized trade and investment and
minimal government regulation, however, has brought many health risks. Furthermore,
the effect of globalization were operationalized in terms of healthcare systems. Several
globalization-related pathways to health exist, two key ones of which are described:
globalized diseases and economic vulnerabilities. Aspects of globalization that affects
health are; Environmental degradation, cross-border transmission of disease, and
general effect on health from changes in economic growth. Therefore, we must do the
things that will benefit us, particularly in our health. Improving your health is an
awesome goal, but there are so many factors to consider.

REACTION PAPER

[REFLECTION]

Peace Communication plays a very big role in our life especially

if each individual came from a different religions. As we all
know, Peace provides a healthy environment. If we have peace
communication, we can understand each other without having
any conflict regarding our religions. A lot of problems would
disappear if we talk to each other peacefully.

We can’t attain peace communication if we have no respect for

each other. Genuine respect for one another leads to peaceful
living. Understanding the true meaning of RESPECT is a
MUST. We should respect everyone’s religion and beliefs.

Peace enriches our communities and individual lives, as it directs

us to embrace diversity and support one another. Peace
communication influences our community by helping the people
socialize better and to appreciate everyone despite the differences
of their religion and beliefs.
