ACTIVITY # 2

As a would-be art teacher, write your own philosophy on the approach you
want to pursue in your art program. Explain your reasons in detail.

I believe that the study of art history is very important because it contributes
significantly to visual literacy. In a world where we’re encountering and
consuming images at a rapidly increasing rate, we must be able to “read” what
we see to be able to decode it. The study of the history of art is not just a study
of history, but a study of aesthetics. Being a great art teacher for the rest of
your career is a worthy goal to pursue, but it's a difficult one to achieve in the
ever-changing world of art education. Mediums, styles, and projects will all
change throughout time. Art education philosophies will evolve, as will
classroom objectives. It takes more than just helping children make art to be a
great art teacher. The best art instructors recognize that they are colleagues,
professional educators, members of a team, administrators, and advocates for
arts education. They understand that teaching is more than just instructing
students, and they approach all parts of their employment with honesty and
high standards. Professional growth, school responsibilities, planning, and
preparation are all included. The outstanding art teacher is a joy to work with
and makes a good difference in areas other than their classroom.

A excellent teacher knows and understands his or her students, as well as

how they grow and learn. I'm aware that kids actively develop and modify their
own knowledge based on earlier learning and experiences. I understand that
not all pupils study in the same way or at the same pace. As a teacher, I believe
it is my obligation to be a good diagnostician of my pupils' interests, abilities,
and past knowledge. Then I have to devise learning activities that will both
challenge and enable each learner to think and progress.A competent teacher,
in my opinion, must also be aware of motivation and the effects of peer
interactions on learning. Because I want all of my pupils to reach high levels of
achievement, I avoid separating them and pitting them against one another.
Because I understand that the bulk of learning occurs through social interaction,
I plan learning so that students collaborate and cooperate constructively with
one another throughout the majority of class time. And also I believe that a
teacher's purpose in life is to help others. A teacher is committed to learning, to
his or her discipline, to his or her pupils, and to making the world a better place
for all of us to live in the future.
