TRAINING
1. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of presentation, hands-on, and group training
methods
There are many methods that the company can use to train their employees and would
help the company to use its labor resources effectively. Some examples are presentation training,
hands-on training, and group training methods. There are advantages and disadvantages in using
every training method mentioned.
Presentation methods are the method that should be used when the company supplies the
employees with the information they need for the job. One of the advantages of this method is
the convenience for the employee and the employer. However, in this method, the employee
becomes the passive recipient of information. Thus, they do not participate actively in this
method but every session there is a question and answer portion to answer questions of the
employee. This portion would let the employee clearly understand the topic presented. This
method is effective for people who are auditory and visual learners. Some examples of
presentation methods are instructor-Led Classroom Instruction, teleconferencing, webcasting,
audiovisual training, etc.
Hands-on Training is the method that needed the active participation of the employee.
This would improve their kinesthetic skills that are needed in the job. In addition, it will really
prepare them for their job since the training is a representation of real-life situations. However, it
might be costly for the business since it requires more space to do their simulated job. Also, the
training team should ensure that the training would not affect the company’s operation to avoid
inconvenience. This is effective for people who are kinesthetic learners, but it is not friendly to
those people who are introverted. Some examples of hands-on training are apprenticeship,
internship, simulations, avatars, etc.
There are many methods that the company can use in training their employees. However,
the company should pick their training methods that are suitable to the nature of their jobs and
the company. Some methods would not be effective if their nature is not compatible.
