Please provide comments in regards to the student teacher's strengths and areas for improvement.

Reinforcements: Ms. Eksteen demonstrated a positive rapport with her third grade students. She verbally reviewed the concept of
"theme" by asking students to verbally share what the term meant. She read the fictional story "Brave Irene" to the students and
asked students questions before during and after the story. She read in a clear voice and stopped to show illustrations.

Suggestions:
Work on using more visuals to help students understand the concept of "theme" such as creating an anchor chart. Think about how
you can incorporate "turn and talk" opportunities for students to share their thinking in order to increase student engagement. The term
theme was mentioned before the story and not again until the end of the story when students were completing a graphic organizer.
Think about how you can incorporate the term theme throughout the story and ways to find it. Model think aloud processes as you
help students navigate the theme.

Thank you!
