TPACK Template: Padlet Activity

Subject: Mathematics: Patterns, Functions, and Algebra

Grade Level: 3rd Grade

Content Knowledge

Learning Objective: 3.17 The student will create equations to represent equivalent
mathematical relationships:
The student will use problem solving, mathematical communication,
mathematical reasoning, connections, and representations to
• Identify and use the appropriate symbol to distinguish
between expressions that are equal and expressions that are
not equal (= and ≠)
• Create equations to represent equivalent mathematical
relationships
Pedagogy Planning

In this activity, my students are going to use Padlet to create posts where they can justify the
equations and expressions their classmates create.

Activity: 1. Have each student join Mr. Yarber’s padlet (accessed online
through the link below)
https://padlet.com/eyarb002/xcmu7c7uek78hrmb
2. Have each student create at least 10 equations that are either
equal or not equal when solved (ex. 23 + 2 = 15 + 10) and add
them to the padlet by posting them.
Pedagogy

3. Each student should then choose 5 other classmates posts to

justify whether the equations created are equal or not equal
and comment on them. (They can work independently or as a
pair to justify the equations)
4. After each student has commented onto their peer’s posts, the
teacher can then review with the class, or small group.
5. The padlet saves and students’ comments can be reviewed for
credit or as practice.
Web 2.0 Technology: Padlet will be used in order for the student to post and comment on
each other posts: https://padlet.com/
✓ The students must come up with their own equations.

However, they can work independently or as a pair to justify

the equations posted by their classmates.
✓ This is a great way for each student to communicate and solve
problems while collaborating in an online community.

Mobile App Option: Padlet does have a mobile app (Padlet) available for IOS or android
devices via the app store/play store. Padlet can also be accessed
through the browser of their mobile device.
