The CC models with reactor/rheostat current control will remain as is. This is a very simple design, reliable and popular
with customers in remote locations.
What is driving the change is the consolidation of control topology within Miller engine drives. CC/CV models are chang-
ing from the reactor/field current control to secondary switch control. This has several major benefits: improved arc quality,
improved reliability, simplify service, and simplify production. Results for all affected models are: Higher output ratings,
greater fuel efficiency and improved arc quality.
• Big Blue 500X CC/CV and Big Blue 600X CC/CV will be replaced by the Big Blue 500X Pro. This is a single
operator, secondary switch controlled unit. Results are: improved arc quality, greater fuel efficiency and improved
output ratings (vs the 500X).
• The Big Blue Air Pak will change to the Big Blue 800X Duo Air Pak and use the same weld controls and the Big
Blue 700 Duo Pro. Results are: dual operator capability, improved arc quality, greater fuel efficiency and higher
output ratings. This allows greater utilization of the available engine power.
