Read and

Reveal
A super fun way to
read CVC words!
By The Reading Bungalow
Read and Reveal

This engaging activity is perfect for small groups
or your literacy centers. Students will read CVC
words and then fold up the paper to reveal a
picture underneath to see if they’ve read the
word correctly.

Directions: Print out and copy the two matching
pages one to two sided on cardstock. (I gave
you the choice of colored or black & white
images. Decide which you will use and then copy
one to two sided with the word page.) Then fold
the paper lengthwise down the middle of the
paper. Next, cut along the dotted lines until you
reach the fold in the middle of the paper. After
I’ve made all the cuts, I then go back and fold
the crease one more time to make sure it’s really
flat. I store them upside down so the cut side
doesn’t flip up too easily while the students are
working with it.

Have your students read one CVC word at a time
and once they’ve blended the word have them
lift the word and the picture will be revealed
underneath.

This is what the
paper will look like
once it is copied,
folded and cut up.

Here is an example of a
student using it. They
read the first word and
once they’ve blended
it they flip the word and
reveal the picture
underneath. Have
students hold the rest of
the words down with
their other hand so the
pictures aren’t revealed
too soon.
