The Creation of Victor Frankenstein

Do you remember that childhood monster called Frankenstein? For some people he was a

monster, for others he was human, and for others he was just another creature from Earth. He has

a lot of characteristics that make him a little bit of a monster, human, and creature. Although

some may argue that Victor's creation is a human, he is definitely a monster because of all the

information and proof in the book.

The first way the creation is a monster is by how it is created. He was assembled from old

body parts and strange chemicals, and animated by a mysterious spark. He doesn't come from a

female's stomach or doesnt come from an egg. He is just a monster made from many different

body parts and by a spark. “With an anxiety that almost amounted to agony … that I might infuse

a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet … I saw the dull yellow eye of the

creature open; it breathed hard, and convulsive motion agitated its limbs.” This is basically

evidence on how he was created and how the way he was created is not normal.

The second way the creation is a monster is by who he basically learned from, which is

Victor. Victor is basically a monster himself so that's where the creature learns his monstrous

characteristics from. Victor is crazy enough to try to make a godlike creature and is crazy enough

to get old body parts. The creature sees Victor being crazy and all so the creature does the same

things as Victor. “But now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless

horror and disgust filled my heart. Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I

rushed out of the room and continued a long time traversing my bedchamber, unable to compose

my mind to sleep.” This shows that once the creation was created he didn't even want to see him

or anything. So basically the creation was left alone to live life by himself. This explains why the

creation is how he is.

The third way the creation is a monster is by how he enjoys killing. After Victor leaves

him he goes on to kill Victor’s best friend, Henry Clerval, and later kills Frankenstein’s bride,

Elizabeth on their wedding night. “A grin was on the face of the monster; he seemed to jeer as

with his fiendish finger he pointed towards the corpse of my wife.” In today's world we call

people who like to kill “monsters” so if we can consider humans monsters then we can make this

8 foot creature with yellow skin a monster for also killing people for no reason. He is a

monstrous creature.

Although some may argue that the creation is a human because it acts and has some

characteristics like a human, However monkeys, apes, and gorillas act and think like humans but

do we consider them humans? No, no we don’t. Yes we can maybe consider the creation an

animal but the way it thinks and the things it does makes him a monster.

In conclusion there are always going to be different opinions on whether the creation is a

monster or not. But in the book it shows and states that the creation is a monster who does

monstrous things.
