Ethics is defined as the “standards of conduct and moral requirements”

necessary to function effectively within an organization or profession.

QUESTION: In the law enforcement context, explain what ethics is. (20 points)

Ethics is something we choose. It is doing that which will aid survival not just for self but
other parts of life. Deciding to steal is unethical because it harms others and one’s own
reputation and safety. Poisoning the environment for the sake of corporate profit is not
ethical and will eventually destroy you and others. Morals are the codes we live by. These
are determined to be survival rules for a group. They are different from ethics. Ethics
determines your survival potential. Ethics, however, are the highly specific rules adopted
by a particular group or profession. What is ethical may not equate with an individual's
values but, to be a member in good standing of this certain group, you must agree to
adhere to the ethics of that group in order to participate. Any contrary behavior is
unethical. It might be the ethics of a particular organization. There are always two aspects
of anything in our life Maybe the things which is positive for me may not be the same for
you and maybe the things which is negative for you is positive for me. It’s also all about
moral principles that govern a person’s behavior, it’s a systematizing, defending, and
recommending concepts of right and wrong behavior. it prescribes what humans ought
to do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, standards.
