Parent Education Presentation

You will develop a presentation as a speaker for a parent group.

You can focus on parents with kids of a specific age group; e.g., “This presentation is for parents of
children between 6 and 11 years old”- or you can do it for parents with kids of all ages, this is up to you.
The presentation is for parents in general, not for parents with special needs children, or parents who
are divorcing or in stepfamilies, etc. You are to focus on parents in general.
This is to be a presentation that helps parents with ideas on how to be effective and “good” parents.
Imagine that you are invited to speak to a group parents.
Your presentation would be 1 hour long.
The assignment is to develop the content for this presentation.
Write the assignment in point form, no long paragraphs please. Write it with headings and subheadings.
DO NOT WRITE IT AS AN ESSAY. I will deduct marks if you submit long paragraphs. Divide each
section in the format of point form.

You are to review all the course material and come up with 3 topics that you could present and that would
give parents knowledge and tools that you think could be key to help them feel more competent, equipped,
confident, and generally good about their parenting skills.

Your paper should be no longer than 5 pages double spaced (unless otherwise specified).

You are to follow the format below:

1. Facilitator Introduces self (this should be 2 or 3 sentences; you are the presenter, so introduce your
name, education, and anything else you feel would be relevant.
2. Orientation to the presentation (a brief outline of what you will present on) (this should be about 3-5
sentences maximum). “Tonight, I will be presenting some tools on XXX, information on yyyy, and some
helpful hints on zzzz.” – or something like this.
3. Topic #1 (each topic should be 1 page maximum; you can mix double space with single space for the
three topics; EACH TOPIC HAS TO BE WRITTEN IN POINT FORM; NO LONG PARAGRAPHS)

3. Describe and define all concepts that you introduce
4. Offer an activity or discussion to help participants deepen their understanding of the topic.
