Reflection

For this project, I was told to make a recommendation report about how to solve a

problem in my community. I chose the problem of poverty and quality of life in New Mexico

and proposed a Universal Basic Income program to help solve this problem. I chose

recommending a UBI program because it has been a trending topic recently because of many

countries and states in the US enacting it as well as because of a recent presidential candidate

named Andrew Yang who brought more attention to it. I also recently read an article about how

Santa Fe will establish a sort of UBI program for their college students, this got me thinking

about if New Mexico can start this program in a bigger scale.

The audience would be the city council who oversee deciding whether to enact this

program; With the audience in mind, I made sure to emphasized on the benefits of this program

because I know this program will cost a lot. Though the city council should care about the

wellbeing of its people, they will also care about how the budget is used. If they believe the

budget for my program is not worth the benefits they will not agree with my recommendation.

Hence why I explained how my recommendation can help better New Mexico’s poverty rate and

how it will cause a positive domino effect that will decrease housing and food insecurities,

improve high school graduation rate, unemployment rate and many more. The context of this

project is that it’s a professional report, which is why I cannot use slang and make the medium

look unorganized and messy. The report needs to be easily navigable and easy to understand,

which is why I added the table of contents and glossary.

SLOs

The first learning outcome is project planning and I believed I have done this with my

rough draft and the PowerPoint we were told to do for out media lab C. With the PowerPoint it

helped us planned out what information our project would consist of and what we needed to

research. The rough draft got us adding this information into a draft of what the final report could

look like. This helps us realize what may work or what else we need to add to make the report

more effective.

I also believed I have achieved the outcome of organizational design, I did research and

added graphs to support my recommendation. After reading the chapter, I knew how to organize

my report to make it easily navigable and include a methodology that would explain where my

evidence is coming from and build my ethos.

I achieved the last learning outcome, written communication, with the help of my peers.

Throughout the project, from the peer reviews of my work I was able to edit my project in a way

that is readable that still gets my point across. I took their thoughts and edit my work around that,

from adding more information, and figuring out what works and what does not. With my peers

help I avoided errors in my work and made sure its readable to them as well as my intended

audience, the government council.
