Dear Senator Portantino,

Thank you for sharing our goal to find solutions to the housing affordability
problem.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS Hills 2000 – Friends of the Hills in the Town of Los Altos Hills, representing
2021-2022 hundreds of families in the Town and community, opposes California Senate Bill
10. See the attached Petition signed by over 700 residents in our community
Jitze Couperus OPPOSING SB 10 and SB 9.
President
California has an affordable housing problem, yet Sacramento continues to intro-
Duffy Price duce legislation, like SB9 and SB10, that allows more market-rate housing to be
Secretary built by developers who reap the benefits of this increased density with no afforda-
ble housing benefit back to the community. Both bills encourage land speculation
Nick Dunckel that will destabilize our single-family neighborhoods. Single-family neighborhoods
Treasurer are not the problem; they are the victim.

Ann Duwe The Appropriations Committee is charged with looking at the state budget and
finance appropriations. SB10, like SB9, rather than increasing affordability, adds
Carol Gottlieb density that makes housing more expensive. You would be remiss to ignore the
impact of your decisions on the constituents and communities who count on you to
Dot Schreiner prioritize their interests over the corporate interests of developers, real estate and
investors and speculators.
Ginger Summit
SB 10 offers no solution to our affordable housing problem and instead adds more
John Harpootlian market rate housing and more density to all our neighborhoods. Worse yet, this will
grant a City council the ability to overturn voter initiatives. That public process
Scott Vanderlip should not be allowed to be overturned without voter approval. SB 10 will attempt
to up-zone the entire state of California with no CEQA review, no infrastructure
upgrades no public input, and no affordable housing component. Further, this bill is
not an OPT-IN bill as has been stated by its sponsor. We respectfully ask that you
OPPOSE SB 10.

Sincerely,

Jitze Couperus
