ETC Zurich is one of the world's leading universities in science and technology. It is
located in Zürich, Switzerland and is a public research university. The university was
founded in 1984 by the Swiss Federal Government with the objective of educating
engineers and scientists, has 16 programs that offer academic education and
conduct scientific research.
Interesting facts-campus life of a university:
University life at ETH has been focused on innovation. ETH is culturally diverse
because it welcomes students and teachers from all over the world. The university
has agreements in various parts of the world.
ETH Zurich lives and promotes the principles of sustainable development with
respect to social, environmental and financial aspects. The university strives to serve
as a "living laboratory" that develops, implements and tests solutions that preserve
natural resources and reduce environmental impacts. Its laboratories have
equipment that is renewed according to the demands of technological growth, so
that the research and practices that are developed are the best. In addition, the use
of technology is focused on each of the careers as it seeks to generate professionals
who are adapted to these new technologies.
ETH Zurich has two campuses. The main building was built between 1858 and 1864
on the outskirts of the city, but today it is located in the heart of the city center. As
the years went by ETH Zurich spread to the surrounding vineyards and subsequent
neighborhoods, as a result, the Zentrum campus consists of several buildings
throughout Zurich. The main building is located directly opposite the University
Hospital Zurich and the University of Zurich. Between 1964 and 1976 a new campus
was built on Hönggerberg on the outskirts of the city. The last major expansion
project on this new campus was completed in 2003; since then, the Hönggerberg
campus has housed the departments of architecture, civil engineering, biology,
chemistry, materials science and physics. The ETH campus has several outdoor
spaces that allow for social interaction among the university's members. Its directors
are trying to increase the number of female students, as recent studies have shown
that only 38% of the students are women. The university has a great infrastructure.
The university has a system called "ETH Link”, The ETH Link is a free bus for
students, workers and faculty that links the two campuses. During the day the bus
runs 3 times per hour and takes about 15 minutes. In 2020 a new all-electric ETH
eLink was implemented. Since 2018, an electric bike sharing system between the
two campuses is also available, with yearly subscriptions subsidised by the
university.

The Zurich campus is open Monday through Friday from 6:00-22:00, Saturday and
Sunday from 8:00-17:00.
The campus in Hönggerberg is open Monday to Friday from 7:00-22:00, Saturdays
from 8:00-12:00.
ETH's varied culinary and gastronomic offerings, as well as stores and services for
everyday needs, complement the facilities and support working, studying and living
at ETH Zurich. Especially at ETH's main locations in the center of Zurich and in
Hönggerberg, there is a wide range of cafés and restaurants as well as mobile food
stands for ETH members and visitors. The wide range of online stores and services
for everyday needs ranges from retail stores to bookstores, stationery stores,
marketplaces, print center and office supply store. The campus also has ATMs,
hairdressers and a mini-mall.
housing & family: As nicely as cafes and restaurants, stores and sports activities
facilities, residences and nurseries additionally make contributions to livening up the
campus and normal college life. ETH and its accomplice agencies guide ETH
contributors and their households with diverse services in terms of housing
alternatives close to the college and toddler care to supplement the family.
Living at the Hönggerberg campus: Since 2016, there were constructing complexes
at the Hönggerberg campus providing residing area for round 900 students. ETH
Zurich desires to create the first-class feasible mastering and examine situations for
its students. The residential gadgets are perfect for this with their infrastructure and
the quick distances to lecture halls and laboratories. They are in step with the
college's method to densify and dynamize its campus.
The residential homes HWW and HWO include severe scholar offices and area for
the scholar affiliation VSETH, the doctoral scholar affiliation AVETH, the ETH and
college language middle, every other daycare middle and tradesmen (e.g.
hairdressers). In doing so, they make a contribution to the Hönggerberg campus by
turning into a district with brief distances and resource-saving mobility.
