Students are required to do the exercise in English:

You are inbound tour operator in Vietnam. Design a four-day package escorted
coach tour for group from 5 -30 American tourists who are in the 50 – 70 age group.
These tourists like the nature, local cultures and local life-style.

The objective of exercise : Create a package tour that uses special sources in your
hometown or region to attract tourists.

Requirements for exercise :

1. Write the plan of the tour (about 200 – 250 words):


a. Choose the name for the tour. Explain why you choose that name.
b. Identify the target clients’ perceptions, needs, expectations, interests when they
travel so that you can match with what you offer.
c. Decide the tourism activities, transport, accommodation, food, and amenities
which you are going to offer.
d. Explain why you choose these aspects (Accommodation, Accessibility,
Activities, Amenities, Attractions) to put in the tour.
e. Choose something special, different, and exciting in your hometown or region.
f. Decide what are included and what are not included
g. Estimate the reasonable price for the tour. Make a price list for each
component. What does each component cost so you can accurately price it?
(not counting the amount of words for this part)
h. What staff are going to be involved in the tour? What special training or
qualifications do they need?
i. How will you market and sell this package tour to American tourists? Explain
why you choose that chain of distribution.
2. Write the itinerary for the tour with the time. (about 200 – 300 words).
3. Map out the basic itinerary.

1. Write the plan of the tour (about 200 – 250 words):


a. Choose the name for the tour. Explain why you choose that name.

EXPLORE THE NEW UNIQUE CULTURE. This name highlights the unique
culture of the Mekong delta and Saigon, it is also a suitable destination for tourists
to explore, discover and experience new special cultures.

b. Identify the target clients’ perceptions, needs, expectations, interests when


they travel so that you can match with what you offer.

With abundant tourism resources both natural and human, tourists are able to join
with local people, experiencing many things they have not seen before.

c. Decide the tourism activities, transport, accommodation, food, and amenities


which you are going to offer.
 Activities: Visiting tourist destinations; trying the floating market; joining
traditional workshops,...
 Transport: air-conditioner vehicles with free wifi.
 Accommodation: 5-star hotel and resort.
 Food: local food and specialties at destinations.
 Amenities: all hotels and resorts have elevators, restaurants,...
d. Explain why you choose these aspects (Accommodation, Accessibility,
Activities, Amenities, Attractions) to put in the tour.

Because the tourists love nature, local cultures and local life-style, I designed an
eco-tour for them with a lot of activities to discover natural landscapes, experience
the local life-style, a working day of native people in the Mekong delta or using
different local dishes. With the age at 50 - 70, after a long day-trip, I think they
need a 5-star hotel for relaxing and American tourists quite love InterCon Group
hotel, so InterContinental Saigon hotel is the best choice for the night at Saigon.
The second night at Can Tho Ecolodge where the tourists can enjoy the peaceful
and rural atmosphere of a truly ecological and non-touristic place. About
accessibility, we can arrive in the Mekong delta by many ways like plane, ferry,
motorbike but the coach is the best way because of its convenience. It’s easy to
reach the destinations rightly. Moreover, tour guides can take care of tourists on
trip.

e. Choose something special, different, and exciting in your hometown or


region.

The most special thing in the Mekong delta is the Cai Rang floating market. The
local people sell and buy everything in their boat. It highlights the bustling life of
the Southwest people.

f. Decide what are included and what are not included

Inclusion:

 Coaches with air-conditioning and free Wifi.


 Small canal
 English-speaking guide.
 Entrance fee.
 5* hotel
 Meals in the tour program.
 Mineral water daily 2 bottles 500ml/per day and cold towel 2 pieces/day.

Tour operator, tour guides are included in the tour. Because this tour is an inbound
tour for international tourists, both tour operators and tour guides also need
Certificate of Tour Operation and Certificate of International Tour Guide. Tour
guides especially have to have the International Tour Guide license in the English
language. They need to master competence such as: presentation, communication
by English, problem solving and so on.

i. How will you market and sell this package tour to American tourists?
Explain why you choose that chain of distribution.

 Advertisement this tour package to the US travel fair


 Post into the Social Network in the US
 Booking promotions by travel influencers in the US
 Sell this tour in the distribution channels in the US market
 Optimize your website for American people.

After designing the tour, I choose this way to sell it:

The tour operator will sell it to the clients through a travel agent. Because it will
help your tour reach more customers. First, the tourist mentality will always
choose tours safely to avoid being scammed, travel agency OTA distribution
channels are the most appropriate choice. Second, tour distribution channels will
provide tours at different prices, so anyone, at any income level can book tours
through tour distribution channels. Moreover, when booking tours on distribution
channels, you will get a cheaper price because the distribution channel sells many
tours, so the price will be cheaper. If you use this way, it will cost a little
commission for the travel agent, but when you have sold more tours, the profit will
make up for the money you pay the travel agent.

DAY 1: ARRIVING TO HO CHI MINH CITY

Arrive at the Tan Son Nhat airport, our driver and guide will pick you up and take
you to the InterContinentalSaigon hotel for check in. Balance the day as your
leisure.

06:30 PM

Meal at a restaurant and take a sweet night for our tour!

DAY 2: HO CHI MINH CITY - SA DEC - AN BINH ISLAND - CAN THO

06:00 AM

Have buffet breakfast at the hotel.

07:00 AM

Our driver will pick you up at the hotel in Saigon and then depart for the Mekong
Delta. On the way, you will stop by the town name Sa Dec to visit Sa Dec flower
village.

11:00 AM

Visit the home of Huynh Thuy Le. This house combines Western and Eastern
architecture and has been listed as one of Vietnam’s most impressive destinations
by the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations.

12:00 AM

 Next, go to Vinh Long province, cruising to An Binh Island by small


canals to experience the charms of the Upper Mekong Delta.
 Visit a traditional coconut candy workshop and rice popcorn
workshop.
 Have a hearty lunch at the local restaurant.

4:30 PM

Check-in at the Can Tho Ecolodge.

07:00 PM

Have dinner in this beautiful resort. Free to visit Can Tho city at night.

DAY 3: CAIRANG FLOATING MARKET (CAN THO) - TRA SU - HO CHI


MINH CITY

05:00 AM

Visit the Cai Rang floating market to explore the unique rural life of the biggest
market in Mekong Delta.

07:00 AM

Have breakfast at the hotel.

8:00 AM

Visit the noodle factory, the cacao garden to have a new look at the way the
local people manually produce chocolate and rice noodles products. Visit the
dragon fruit garden to taste the fresh fruit ripped on the trees.

9:30 AM

 Go to An Giang province to explore Tra Su forest. Tra Su Forest in


Chau Doc Town is the most beautiful destination in the Mekong Delta.
 Have lunch at a local restaurant.

02:30 PM
 Return to Ho Chi Minh City.
 On the way back to the hotel, stop to have dinner. Overnight in Saigon.

DAY 4: HO CHI MINH CITY HALF DAY CITY TOUR

07:00 AM

Have breakfast at the hotel.

08:00 AM

 Visit Independence Palace, it is a widely known landmark of Ho Chi


Minh City and was designed by the architect Ngo Viet Thu.
 Continue seeing the beautiful structures from the French Colonial times
such as the Notre Dame Cathedral, the historic Central Post Office.
Followed by the remarkable site of the War Remnants Museum, the
museum has a vast display of both the Indochina wars.

12:30 AM

 Have lunch at a local restaurant.


 Depending on the flight time or the next schedule of the tourist, you are
transferred by our driver to the airport for your flight back to your home
country. End of service!
