Week 8 Journal
I can’t believe it is the eighth week of my internship. I have already learned so much and
will continue to do so throughout the coming weeks. We have been using the x-ray machine
daily since it was installed last week. Our patients are loving this service. We had a very busy
week at Life Point Medical. Thursday was our busiest day as ultrasound came into the office and
the mammogram bus also came. Soon, I will learn how to do the mammogram and ultrasound
billing which will be great. The billing/coding is a skill that will benefit me in the future.
On Monday morning, I checked the email and went through the rest of the mail from
Friday. Dr. Beck came in before the huddle to discuss the mass texting service and to figure out
how I have been doing with my research. He decided he was going to send a video once a week,
so we decided to go with textedly. After the morning huddle, I signed him up with textedly, and
then I had to contact our representative to learn how to download Dr. Beck’s CSV file into the
dashboard/subscribers tab. I concluded the morning by completing the billing so that Allison
could go in, double-check them, and then drop the claims. After lunch, our textedly
representative had gotten back into contact with me so I had to pass it on to Dr. Beck. We got his
CSV file downloaded and he sent the first mass text using the new service. Then, I had to run to
the post office to send off a patient’s medical records. I returned to the office and saw a few
amazon packages. Jessica and I opened them up and it was most of the supplies for the new
exam rooms. We hope to get the new supplies dispersed into their proper exam room by the end
of this week. I completed the afternoon billing and Jessica went in behind me to double-check

and drop the claims. Before I left, Dr. Beck showed me the issues that google ads are presenting
us with.
Tuesday morning after the morning huddle, I finished typing up the biote instructions and
printed them out. Then, I filed the instructions into the front of the biote binder where they would
be easy to access for anyone who may need to look at them. I made a file for textedly to go into
our filing cabinets and then I filed what little information we currently have. Before I left for
lunch, I worked on the morning billing. After lunch, I updated the calendar since it was the first
day of March. Then, I finished the morning billing, checked the mail, and put it where it
belonged. I ended the day by completing the afternoon billing and sat with Jessica while she
went through to double-check me. She gave me a few pointers/reminders that I made note of.
I worked until lunch on Wednesday. At the morning huddle, we talked about a scheduling
issue for Friday and Dr. Beck and Kristin worked on resolving it with the front desk individuals.
Then, I scanned many documents into several patients’ charts. I completed the morning by doing
some of the morning billing. A code arose that I had not seen before, so I did some research on it
I started off Thursday morning by checking the email and discarding the billing sheets
from Wednesday. After the morning huddle, Jessica and I met with Allison to decide what we
needed to complete for the day. I did a few EOBs and then I started on the morning billing. After
returning from lunch, I finished the morning billing and checked the mail. I had quite a bit to go
through since I did not do that on Wednesday. I went through and did my thing with mail before
I started the afternoon billing. I completed the afternoon billing, looked over it with Jessica, and
On Friday, Jessica and I met with Allison and then started our days. We both had a few
tasks that needed to be completed before leaving for the day/weekend. My first main task was to
get with Dr. Beck to go over the google ads issues. Then I had to call google ads customer
service and resolve the issue that we were having with our dermatology ad. Google ads just shut
it down, so I had to go through a process to get it up and running again. Throughout the morning,
I completed the morning billing. Before leaving for lunch, I looked back in the files from last
year to figure out how many packs of the flu vaccines Jessica had ordered. I relayed this
information to Jessica, and she showed me how to run a report in Athena to see how many
patients received the flu vaccines compared to how many flu vaccines were paid for. It turns out
that more patients received the vaccine and were not billed for it. Therefore, Jessica and I are
thinking of a better way for the nurses/ front desk to document the flu vaccines given to ensure
that all individuals are being billed properly. After lunch, I called a potential candidate for the
office manager position to schedule a second interview this upcoming week. Toward the end of
the day, I made new timecards for the employees to grab on Monday as the new pay period
begins. I ended the day by checking the mail and completing the afternoon billing.
Overall, it was another great week at my internship site. I continue to be so thankful that I
am able to intern here and to grow my knowledge on this view of the public health field. I
continue to research online MBA programs, and I will look into GCs before fully deciding.
