Práctica N*2

1.(P) A 2.3 m3 shovel having a maximum digging height of 9.1m will be used on a highway project to excavate well
blasted rock the average face height is expected to be 6.7m.Most of the cut will require an average 120o swing of
the shovel in order to load the haul unit. Determine the estimated production in cubic meter bank measure. Take
efficiency 30 min in 60 min. (Fill factor =1)
Ideal cycle time (t)= load + swing loaded + dump + swing empty = 9 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 21 s
The optimum height is 50 % digging height

2. The annual production of an open pit mine is 6.5 MT rock with the density of 2.45 t/m3.Mining operation is done
in two shifts per day and 6 days per week. Each shift is 6.5hours and in total 50 weeks per year. If considering cycle
time of 45s. Define the volume of bucket if:
· Fill factor= 0.85
· Swell factor= 0.85
· Job efficiency= 0.75

3.(P) The annual production of a mine is 12000000 tonnes per year with the bank density of 2.45 gr/cm3 . The
density of material will decrease to 1.96 gr/cm3 after the poorly blasting. Determine the number of cable shovels we
need to load material in this mine considering the following information.
· Bench height= 15m
· Percent of optimum depth= 100
· Working days per year= 355 day
·Maintenance days=28
·Shifts per day= 2
·Hours per shift= 8 hr
·Delays per shift= 1.5 hr
·Average cycle time= 35s
·Swing angle= 75o
·Job efficiency=0.9
You can use the following empirical equation to define the bucket capacity based on bench height
(H) BC=1.754H-11.544

4. In an open pit mine with a total production of 10 million tonnes of ore (density: 2.45 t/m3) it is planned to use a
shovel to load material.
a) Define the bucket capacity considering:
·2 working shifts of 6 hours per day
· 350 working days per year
·Cycle time= 45s
·Fill factor= Swell factor= 0.8
·Job efficiency= 0.75
b) In the previous example, how many shovels we need if we decide to use a 7m3 bucket (AS:D= 0.95 ; Efficiency=
0.8)

5. (P)A mining company expects to remove 40 million tons of ore annually and it’s determined that two of the same
shovels will be used for this at a rate of 3 working shifts of 6 hours each, for 360 days/year. Considering:
• An ore density = 2.65 ton/BCM
• Fill factor = Swell factor = 0.85
• Job efficiency = 0.90
• Cycle time = 60 seg
a.What size should be their bucket?
b.Determine hourly production of one shovel
c.How many cycles are going to be executed to remove all the material?
d.How many 8 CM shovels (efficiency = 0.85 and cycle time = 30 seg) are needed to accomplish the annual production
rate?
