Individualized Professional Development Plan

Name: Major:

Mia Myers Elementary Education

Why are you pursuing this degree? What do you want the outcome to be? How are you going

to work toward making that outcome possible? **Is the outcome directly related to your WHY?

Why: Not only do I want to teach children the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their future

education and life, but I also want to teach self-confidence and social/emotional skills to early childhood

students. I also want to teach to make a difference in children’s lives and make waves in the field of education;

I feel a responsibility to use my knowledge of culturally responsive and trauma-informed teaching to leave

a lasting impact on young people and to make education more cultural and trauma focused.

What: I hope to teach students to be proud of themselves and of their skills, talents, ideas, and creativity.
I want to provide an inclusive environment and safe space for sharing and learning for my students. The

children in my classroom should be able to trust me and feel as though school is a second home; I want

my experience with them to push them in a positive direction for the rest of their young lives.
How: I will use my education classes and other opportunities/experiences at Butler and in the

community to develop my own social/emotional skills and to add to my toolkit in order to best

serve students in a caring, inclusive, and effective way. I will continue to educate myself about the

most informed and researched strategies and practices in my field, and further, I will use that

knowledge to individualize curriculum and activities according to each one of my students.
