Causes of Stress

Generally it is thought that stress can only occur in adult’s life and adults do not take

serious young people’s stress. However, actually there are so many reasons of stress in young

people’s life as well.’’Rates of depression, anxiety, suicidality and other mental health

disorders among teens have been on the rise in recent years.’’(Deborah, C.,2019). According

to CNN International Health Issue (2019) ‘’One reason for the increase in depression and

suicidal behaviours may be more stress and pressure on kids’’. The reasons of stress are

different for everyone but among young people, there are still some main causes that affect

almost every young person. School, family, friend relations, worries about career and future,

financial problems are some of the causes of stress in young people’s life.

Firstly, there are two types of stress among young people’s lives. First one is called

school stress. School can be the number one trigger of stress especially for young students.

Students put school in the centre of their life and generally school is thought to be tiring

because of too much homework and successive exams. Expectations of teachers has also a

strong impact on students. Furthermore, students fear failing a test or getting a lower grade in

an exam because most students cares about their academic achievement. These reasons are the

triggers of stress among students. In addition to that changing school can be the other stress

trigger among young students. Because students have to get used to new school environment

and have to make new friends. In school life friend relationships are really important because

the friend that one meet at school could be the best friend of a person ever. Be exposed to

bullying is the other possibility that a student can encounter with in new school environment.

It is right to be say that no one wants to be bullied.

Secondly the other type of stress is work stress. Work is really important part of young

people’s life in terms of their future, career development, financial freedom and moreover.

The one type of young people is who just graduated and searching for a job. These types of
young people can worry about their future. They could ask themselves ‘’What am I going to

be? What is my dream job? Will I be able to get a high amount of salary? ‘’. The other type of

young people is the one who already started working and worries about work process. In this

process working conditions are really important. For example, if a person is working under

dangerous conditions as a construction worker or miner, it is normal to feel stressed. Besides

that, working for long hours can also be stress trigger for working young people. Because

young people generally can’t get used to work long hours as much as elderly. In addition to

that losing a job can cause stress for young people as well. Resigned because of your boss or

get fired from work can cause financial problems. Especially if a young person can’t get

salary, then can’t support his home and then feel stressed. Too much thinking about future

causes a lot of anxiety and stress for both working young people and young people who are

searching for a job.

To conclude there are so many reasons that cause stress among young people. Parents

and teachers play an important role in the lives of young people. Because they can understand

them and by giving advice, they can decrease their stress level. In addition to that most people

want to be successful and have a bright future of themselves. It should be remembered that it

is important to stay positive. So, I’ve come to the conclusion that everything will be solved

eventually, and people should take a break of school and work sometimes.
