1. Difficult Concepts

A. One problematic issue was whether or not the Filipinos profited and flourished from all of
those pre-colonial archeological findings, commerce, and innovations.
B. Another crucial point I struggled with was why there was an absence of learning institutes
and learning in the Philippine, and who was actually responsible for nurturing it: the
Spaniards or the Americans?
C. It was also difficult to comprehend why the authority did not encourage science and
technology in the Philippines, despite the fact that it was for the future and welfare of the
country and its citizens.

2. Learning insights

A. Before reading the article, I thought was about how the Philippines modernized, such as
the role of colonialism in terms of technology or whatever else was on our minds. Something
merely palpable, something we can touch or use.

However, after reading the article, I now think that it is about the advancement of
science and technology in the Philippines. It discusses the basis, or structure, of how our
country evolved and became centralized in terms of its economy, which includes various
sectors, education, technology, government, and science. And how does this all fit within the
backdrop of colonialism?

B. Before reading the article, I thought that science and technology did not exist in the
Philippines until the technical breakthrough of the computer.

However, after reading article, I now think that much progress in science and
technology occurred before the Spaniards occupied the Philippines.

C. Before to reading the article, I thought that schools at the time were already outfitted with
the required amenities and such.

However, after reading the article, I now think that many of the schools mentioned
were under-equipped and lacked facilities such as biological labs, chemical laboratories, and
libraries.

3. Discussion Question
