community.
3. A culture is a way of life of a group of people
4. Culture is symbolic communication.
5. Cultures include symbols, language, beliefs, values and norms.

ACTIVITY 1
1. Being social and cultural means that we are not fixed at birth, but can grow into
many various things. As a result, we can become saints or sinners, farmers or
nurses, priests or corporate executives. Culture shapes who we are, and biology
may play a role in distinguishing us from one another.

2. Different societies emerge as communities are built upon culture rather than
instinct. As a result, we can either become a peaceful people or a militaristic
people. Competition or cooperation, this world or an afterlife, rock music or opera
are all options for what we want to be.

3. Unlike other animals, we are not controlled by commands. Many of our

decisions are not made on the basis of free will. The culture we are exposed to
becomes ingrained in our being and influences all element of our existence. In
basic terms, there are complicated effects from which we are unable to escape.

4. We are no longer passive beings reliant on instinct or conditioning since we are

social and culturally dependent. Culture enables us to comprehend our
surroundings. Being (5C cultural) makes one active, problem-solving, and creative.
It also implies that we can apply our own expertise to a variety of scenarios.

PROCESS Q.
1. Culture is the medium through which most of man's attitude, belief, traditions
are being influenced and adopted. It is in one's culture that ideals are developed
and given prominence. Culture offers significance to man's existence by allowing
him to experience the world through the eyes of various social groups.
ACTIVITY 2
The Pandemic Covid-19 affect the Filipino Culture positively and negatively by the
health protocols and new normal that has been changed. First of all, Pandemic
affects the Filipino Culture positively by social distancing so that each Filipino will
prevent being infected of the virus and also to learn discipline, since most of
Filipinos usually go anywhere and do what they want to do, by discipline many
people control their time and become more careful in any public thing they’ve
touch. They’ve became more cleaner and having progress physically and mentally
with quality time of the family. However, we all know Filipinos are Hospitable and
even treating each other respectfully such as doing mano po or beso-beso with the
elders. Thus, the Pandemic affects the Filipino Culture negatively by the risks of
communicating and socializing with peer and through this they’re not allowed to do
such things like that and they’re not allowed to let the visitors in automatically.
PROCESS Q.
1. Culture is a mechanism of collective survival and advancement for humans.
Man would be unable to succeed in science and technology without culture.
Through culture, man has also cultivated and developed means of communication
that have grown so simple and quick that it is now possible to go across the globe.

PERFORMANCE TASK.
VIGNETTE:
Many say that "we are what we eat." In other words, our lifestyle creates our
own individual nature and the personal culture that we develop depends on
what we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, the language we learn, the
values we assimilate, the ideas we believe, the spirituality we practice and
everything that we acquire in our lives until we die. All these make what we are
and they are the kind of culture that we utilize to survive and live. These too are
what give meaning to our lives and we believe that they offer us happiness
when we are able to apply them in our daily lives. It is a fact however that there
are people who have been trained and nurtured in a culture which later they
refuse to practice or believe as good. The women in traditional primitive culture
(even perpetrated in contemporary milieu) have been raised to be subservient
to men. When they defy these cultural practices, they are either disowned by
their families or worse, they even have to suffer death for dishonoring them.
Their parents practice pre-arranged marriages of their daughters even when the
latter have never seen the would-be husband. If they disobey, they can be
subjected to the so-called 'honor killing' in which a member/s of their family can
kill them ford is honoring family values. And many women have suffered this
kind of cultural practice. How do you understand culture vis-à-vis human rights?
Does the example above respect human rights? Is culture here to be understood
as a natural part of the nature of man, or is this kind of culture a kind of human
distortion perpetuated by generations to favor men and authority of elders? Is
forced marriage a distorted cultural value? Please explain

Man is born into a culture and has been a product of culture. Culture, may be
understood in many different ways. The kind of culture is existent for it is believed
it would bring good and would help to maintain their culture if everyone should
practice doing it. It is normally accepted, especially if you respect your culture and
families, but as years go by, people knew more about their rights and builds up
courage to stand up for themselves. These different types of culture are distorted
and a mess that is made up just to favor the elders. What they are doing are
against the human rights. Deciding for other people, thinking they know what is
right, it is unbelievable how things like this are part of someone's culture. I believe
it is distorted for a culture is controlled other people. They make such rules and
punishments if anyone would be against it, and it is morally wrong for it is against
the human rights of a person. One example is from above, forcing a marriage or
arrange marriage. A culture that has been going on for some generations. A
culture that has been only agreed by the ones arranging it, not thinking about the
feelings of the one's being arrange marriage to. It is a concrete example that
some cultures are controlled by the people who has power and the highest
respect by
In other words, Man is a product of civilization, having been born into it. Culture
may be interpreted in a variety of ways. The sort of culture exists because it is
thought that if everyone practiced it, it would bring good and help to perpetuate
their culture. It is often accepted, particularly if one respects one's culture and
family, but as time passed, individuals became more aware of their rights and
developed the bravery to advocate for themselves. These many cultures have
been perverted and are a jumble that has been concocted just to benefit the
elderly. What they are doing is a violation of human rights. It's incredible how
things like these become part of someone's culture, deciding for others and
believing they know what is right. I feel it is twisted because it is influenced by
others. They create such restrictions and sanctions if anybody objects, which is
ethically wrong since it violates a person's human rights. One example is the
above-mentioned forced or arranged marriage. This is a civilization that has
existed for many generations. A culture that has only been decided upon by those
who are arranging it, without regard for the sentiments of those who are being
married to. It is a clear illustration of how certain societies are ruled by those with
the most power and respect. Forced and early marriages are particularly
widespread in poor African, South Asian, and former Soviet republics countries. In
more prosperous North American and European nations, however, there are still
examples of forced and early marriage. Slavery in the form of forced marriage
may be combined with other types of slavery.

Explanation:
Man is born into a culture and has been shaped by it throughout his life. Culture
may be interpreted in a variety of different ways. The sort of culture exists
because it is thought that if everyone practiced doing it, it would be beneficial and
would aid in the preservation of their culture. The practice is generally acceptable,
particularly if one respects one's culture and family, but as time progressed,
individuals became more aware of their rights and gained the confidence to
advocate on their own behalf. These many sorts of culture have been perverted
and turned into a jumble that has been concocted just to benefit the elderly. They
are infringing on human rights by what they are doing. When individuals make
decisions for other people, believing that they are doing the right thing, it is
incredible how things like this may get ingrained in someone's culture. I feel it is
twisted because it is a product of a society that is governed by others. They
impose such laws and sanctions if someone is found to be in violation of them,
and this is ethically wrong since it is a violation of a person's human rights. One
such example is the marriage that was forced or arranged in the previous section.
This is a tradition that has been passed down through generations. A culture that
has only been decided upon by those who are arranging the marriage, with no
consideration for the sentiments of those who are being proposed to. It serves as
a real illustration of how certain societies are dominated by those who wield the
most power and command the most respect. Forced and early marriages are most
widespread in destitute countries in Africa, South Asia, and the former Soviet
republics, although they may occur elsewhere. However, there are still instances
of forced and early marriage in more wealthy nations in North America and
Europe, particularly in the United Kingdom. Forced marriage may be combined
with other types of slavery to create a vicious cycle.
