Step 1: Search the concept of Didactics of English and give your own definition in a written
paragraph, then share it in the forum.
Step 2: Check out the book The Cambridge Guide to Teaching English to Speakers of
Other Languages (p. 1-6) available in the learning environment, the reference EFL ESL
Teaching Terminology, and any other material you can find, and explain what the
following acronyms stand for. Additionally illustrate their meanings by giving examples of
each one of them.
• L1 and L2.
L1 refers to the mother tongue, i.e., the first language we speak, our native language; for
example, if I was born in Italy and my parents speak Italian all the time the first language, I
will acquire will be Italian becoming my L1.
ESP (English for specific purposes) These courses are developed according to the
student's needs. For example, if you want to improve your English for negotiation purposes,
your speaking will be reinforced for better communication and fluency.
EST (English for science and technology) the world is advancing by leaps and bounds
and technology plays a fundamental role, I interpret this English as more scientifically
oriented, allowing any person interested in this world to integrate in an adequate way.
EAP (English for academic purposes) If you want to improve your English at an
academic level, you can find university programs that allow you to do exchanges in order to
travel to the United States to improve your English.
CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) relates to the strategies and support
activities offered by the teacher to the student so that he/she can build his/her knowledge.
We can say that it allows the teacher to see the knowledge that the student has and this
helps him/her to create strategies to improve his/her learning.
TTT (Teacher Talking Time) Corresponds to the time the teacher spoke in the target
language; this helps students acquire better listening skills. Usually in my case, the
directions for the activities were given in English by my teacher.
FES (Fluent English speaker) Person who speaks and understands English well. That is
someone who can hold a conversation without interruption and without hesitation.
LES (Limited English speaker) It is how they refer to people who speak very little
English and are not fluent in the languages, they think a lot about what they are told.
CLT (communicative language teaching) It is based on the design of study plans that
adjust to the needs of each student. A clear example that we can find is that in schools study
plans are carried out according to the grade, so that students learn the relevant topics and
can understand them.
Step 3: As the initial stage of the practical work of this course, you are asked to fill out the
virtual questionnaire Information General the link will be given to you in the forum in order
to find out if you already have been assigned to a practice institution, and if you have done
the process to obtain your ARL. In this form you are going to choose a school to start the
observation work. At the end, send the following evidence: screenshot of the answered
questionnaire, the name of the institution you chose, the name of the principal, the city or
municipality where it is located.
