Objective(s):

Upon completion of the story, students will be able to recall and identify parts of the story in
simple terms by using examples from the book with 90% accuracy.

Students will be able to apply the concepts of the story to create their own dream picture using a
variety of art materials.

Materials:
1. The story Bowwow Powwow
2. White construction paper
3. Watercolors
4. water cups
5. paint brushes
6. paper towels
7. Markers
Procedure:

1. Introduce: Children will sit together on the large carpets area in a circle. Introduce the story
Bowwow Powwow by Brenda Child while drawing the children’s attention to the picture on
the cover. Ask the group “What do you think our story is about?” or “Who do you think the
story is about?”
2. Read: The book
3. Discuss: Children will discuss and share their summary of what happened during the story.
• “Do you have any pets? What silly things do your pets do?”
• “When has your family had a party or gathering where you celebrate
together?”
• “ When you celebrate do you eat anything special?” Do you wear anything
special?”
• “What stories have you heard about your family when they were younger?”
• “What have you dreamed about?"
• “What was your favorite part of the story?”
4. Activities:
• Fishbowl Discussion & Think-Pair-Share: The fishbowl discussion during the
circle on the carpet. For the think-pair-share, children will be split into 2 small
groups to discuss what they will be drawing from the story. think-pair-share
activities will be used together as one activity.
• Art Project: Children will use a variety of art materials to recreate their favorite
part of the story. Children will present and share their paintings with whole group.

Assessment:
Students will be assessed on their ability to summarize the story and the answers they contribute
to the group discussion with their peers. The art project will be assessed by their ability to recall
parts of the story and their paintings relevance.
