1.

In Edrich novels we began to explore more about traditional Native American practices

and the cross-cultural practices of Chrirstinaity intertwined with each other. The novel

may be a bit confusing to some as it is not told in chronological order and the sequencing

does go back and forth. In Edrich’s novel we are able to learn more and have insight on

what a non-traditional family atmosphere is like.

2. The supplementary reading is able to be aligned wiith this novel as it discusses

colonization. When the Europeans colonizined several indgienious groups, it led to a total

change for some of the inidgneious societies. As discussed in the article Europeans

practiced different religions from the Natives and in addition, womens role in society was

different, and family structures. This caused the Navtives to subvert the Europeans way

of living as often the Europeans viewed the Natives as unhinged. Even viewing women in

today's society and compared to third-world nations we can see the difference in how

women are treated. “women in the third world countries she writes about have "needs"

and "problems," but few if any have "choices" or the freedom to act.”, in western

countries women are allowed to be able to protest and speak up about inequalities. This is

not a luxury afforded to other cultures.
