ITEC 7410: SIP Plan/Technology Plan Analysis

Name: Kayla LeVieux (Segars) Semester: Spring 2021

Directions: Locate and review your district- or school-level Strategic Improvement Plan
or other strategic planning document. Locate and review your district’s Technology Plan.
These documents are typically located online, but you may need to contact the Principal
or Technology Director for a copy. Then, reflect on each question below and type your
response below each question in this template. Provide a sufficient amount of detail (ie.
minimum of 2-5 sentences per question as appropriate).

Strategic Improvement Plan Analysis:

 What is your school’s or district’s mission/vision?

a. Both Houston County and Warner Robins Middle School’s, WRMS,
mission are to produce high-achieving students.
b. Warner Robins Middle School’s mission is to become a premier school
of teaching and learning.
c. Houston County’s vision is that our system will be world class.

 What are the targeted areas for improvement (ex. fourth-grade math, improved
LA scores for ESOL population, etc.) and the specific goals related to this
improvement area that are set forth in the SIP (ex. % gain in CRCT scores)?
d. Neither Houston County nor WRMS’s SIPs mention any specific areas of
academic improvement. Both seem to use broad language to convey
their goals for their intended population. For example, Houston County
mentions how they plan to “Tailor student learning opportunities
focused on student-centered learning, higher-order thinking, and
problem solving to meet individualized learner needs and goals.” While
they do an adequate job of explaining their goal to develop student-
centered learning, they use generic language to cover a wide range
instruction and fail to mention the specifics on how they will measure or
carryout this goal.

 How does your SIP address the needs of diverse populations regarding digital
technology equity for low SES and gender groups (ie. females) and assistive
technology for disabled learners? If it does not, what are your recommendations?
e. Houston County only mentions technology in one of their SIP key action
as saying, “Ensure equitable access, reliability, and use of system
technology resources”. In fact, HCBE doesn’t mention any specific need
for any of our diverse student population. Seeing as how we have an
incredibility diverse student population; I feel as though there needs to
be goals created specifically to aid in the advancement of our diverse
student population.
f. WRMS mentions “continuing technology integration across content
areas to inspire inquiry and inventive thinking morphing students into
digital citizens.” This key action seems to more specific than the key
action mentioned in Houston County’s SIP, however, like Houston
County, WRMS does not mention how they intend to use technology to
reach our diverse student population.

 How is technology included in the SIP? In what ways is student technology literacy
included as a goal in your SIP? If it is not, what are your recommendations?
g. WRMS discusses using multiple forms of media to facilitate an on-going,
two-way communication and to continue to grow when presented with
the opportunity to address the needs of the 21st century learner using
technology.

 Why is technology addressed (or not addressed!) as it is? For example, does
school/district culture or history contribute to the way the SIP addresses
technology? [Possible Unstructured Field Experience if interviewing others to
find this history.]
h. According to our Principal, technology is addressed as it is because
there is an ongoing need for students to become proficient in in order
to grow into productive digital citizens. My principal mentioned that
almost every job, or the road to obtaining that job, includes the use of

technology. While our students may not be proficient in every aspect of
technology use, it’s our job to introduce them to technology across a
multitude of platforms in order to help them establish a strong
technology foundation.
 Are you pleased with the current treatment of technology-related issues in the SIP?
Why or why not?
i. While I am pleased with how WRMS incorporated technology into our
SIP, I feel that there is room for improvement. Becoming a responsible
digital citizen, developing a strong technological foundation, and guiding
exposing students to different ways of digital communication will help
to prepare students for future success, I feel as though out school could
have been more specific.
 Would you like to see technology issues represented differently in future SIPs? Why?

j. WRMS is title one school, yet there is no mention of the barrier our
students face in the ways of developing their foundation with
technology. There is also no mention of student’s lack access to
technology or language barriers.

 How might technology be integrated more effectively into your SIP in the future?
k. Again, I think it would be effective to include more specific areas of
improvement for technology. Not only could the SIP incorporate the
specific steps needed in order to achieve their goals.

 What are your first thoughts of how technology could contribute toward
achieving the mission/vision/goals set forth in the SIP?
l. When thinking about the mission statement, “…to produce high-
achieving students” technology is one of the things that comes to mind
first. In my opinion, in order for a student be considered a “high
achieving student,” in today’s society, they need to be fluent in various
platforms and programs in technology. The same applies it the vision of
creating a system that is “world class”.

District Technology Plan Analysis:

 What are the main curriculum goals in your district’s technology plan?
o The main goal, that pertains to the curriculum goals, is
 “Analyze data using technology through data dashboards and
applications to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses.
Provide professional learning and guidance for using data to guide
informed decision making.”
 What strategies are outlined for achieving these goals?
o The strategies laid out to support the above goal are as followed:
 “Student performance data posted to system and school
webpages and SharePoint - reported to schools in a timely
manner. Maintain and update Tableau interactive data
dashboards. Train personnel in the effective use of GA DOE state
longitudinal data system (SLDS.)”
 “Data document and dashboard logs provided in IC, Tableau and
SharePoint. Classroom and school level usage reports for data
such as pivot tables, charts, graphs, and the SLDS provided by the
State DOE.”

 Does the plan seem achievable over the designated timeline? Why?
 The pan seems outdated. While yes, it is achievable the programs
listed in the strategic outline, we don’t even use anymore.
Tableau, I’ve never even heard of and we stopped using
SharePoint about a year ago.
 In what ways would you like to see the plan improved?
 I would like this plan to be updated. I would enjoy seeing more
realistic and specific goals that also incorporate the technology
and systems we are actually implementing in our classrooms.
 What could you, in your current or a future position, do to help support
implementation of the plan?

Summer 2019
 I don’t see myself leaving the classroom anytime soon, not do I
have the want to become go into administration. Because of that,
I think the only thing I could do to contribute is to provide a
current and realistic look into the classroom.
 How does the plan address the needs of diverse populations regarding digital
technology equity for low SES and gender groups (ie. females) and assistive
technology for disabled learners? If it does not, what are your recommendations?
 The only mention of diverse students, low equity, or disabled
learners is, “Provide assistive technology for students with
disabilities.” Other than the above statement, there is no mention
of any specific diverse group of students.
 In what ways does the plan tie-in to the SIP?
 The technology plan seems to be a more detailed guide for how
the county will implement the technology aspects of the SIP plan.
The SIP was constructed using more broad terminology and
generic ideas and goals. The technology plan uses more targeted
and specific language.
 Do stakeholders know about the Tech Plan?
 Honestly, finding the Tech Plan wasn’t easy. The only reason I
even knew where to begin to loo was because of work I
completed in my pervious semesters for KSU. Therefore, no.
Despite the fact that stakeholders are mentioned 16 times in the
Tech Plan, I don’t believe stakeholders know about the plan or
when it created.
 Is it being implemented effectively? Why or why not?
 No, I don’t believe the technology plan is being implemented
properly. In my honest opinion, it was being implemented
efficiently in 2017, when I it was approved, but it hasn’t been
since then.

Summer 2019
 What strategies could be implemented to help accelerate adoption of the plan?
 Again, updating the plan to reflect our current classroom
procedures would be helpful. It’s hard to implement a plan that is
outdated.
