SKELETAL SYSTEM NOTES: 1. The skeleton gives shape and support to our body. 2. It protects the soft internal organs: (i) The skull protects the brain. (i) The rib cage protects the heart and the lungs. (ii) The backbone protects the spinal cord. 3. Itallows the movement of different body pars 4, Many bones in our body are hollow. They ae filled witha jll-tike substance called bone marrow. Blood cells are made in the bone marrow. The skeletal system includes more than just bones. It also includes tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. Tendons attach our bones to musoles so we can move around. Ligaments attach bones to other bones. Muscles are how we move and live. All movement in the body is controlled by muscles. Some muscles work without us thinking, like our heart beating, while other muscles are controlled by our thoughts and allow us to do stuff and move around. All of our muscles together make up the body's muscular system. ‘Museles work by contracting and relaxing. Types of Muscles Smooth * Involuntary muscle; controlled unconsciously * In the walls of blood vessels and internal organs Cardiac * Controls itself with help from nervous and endocrine systems * Only in the heart Skeletal * Voluntary muscie; controlled consciously * Over 600 throughout the body
