The Science Behind Marketing

The power of marketing is something we all take for granted. We may not realize it, but

marketing has an effect on everyone in some way. Marketing is one of those things no one ever

really thinks about but it is always going on and the way it works is very interesting. Marketing

influences everyone, as well as play a big part in social media, yet scientists still refuse to do

more research on the science behind marketing and how it works.

It does not take much to be affected by marketing. All it takes is simply seeing the tiniest

logo (David). Just seeing the slightest bit of marketing can have a great impact on one's thought

process when making a decision. Marketing also takes time; it can sometimes take up to a year

after seeing a logo before someone acts on it. There are so many different factors that go into

marketing, and it can sometimes be a gamble because it is never promised to work. Knowing the

right marketing strategies can make all the difference but that is very difficult because of how

much they are always changing.

Social media plays a big part in marketing today. Social media has quickly become one

of the main sources of marketing. More and more companies are using influencers to promote

their brand and or products. Companies send influencers their products free of charge in hopes

that they will make content with it and promote it to their following (Martinez). Today’s

consumers trust the influencer and what they have to say about a product. If an influencer says

they like a product or brand, then all their followers will take their word for it and run out and

buy it even if it is not even that great. Social media has overall taken over the whole marketing

scene, but it is honestly one of the fastest and easiest ways for companies to promote themselves

today.

Some scientists still refuse to believe in the power of marketing. Scientists claim that it is

too expensive to do the further research needed in order to gain an understanding of how

marketing works, and how it affects people (David). Scientists like to claim that they are not

affected by marketing, but all it takes is simply seeing a logo once for it to have an effect on an

individual whether they know it or not (David). The science behind marketing can be really

overwhelming and confusing when trying to understand it but it is crazy to learn what all it

affects. Most of us underestimate the power of marketing.

Overall, the science behind marketing does not get the attention it deserves. It is very

fascinating and crazy to see how marketing works, and it is one of those things that no one ever

talks or thinks about, yet it is constantly affecting all of us every day. Scientists have just barely

hit the tip of the iceberg when it comes to information about how marketing works, and there is

so much more of it to be found and understood.
