REFLECTION PAPER IN LIVING IN THE IT ERA:

DATA PRIVACY AND SECURITY WEBINAR

ADRIAN G. NAKILA, BSN1-11B

In the twenty-first century, the introduction and continued rise of ground-breaking information
technologies has altered people's lives. This transformation began in the late twentieth century,
and the emergence of the internet in 1995 gave rise to methods, tools, and gadgets that have
amazing applications in all academic fields and the corporate world. As people began to accept
this way of life, the expansion of the technology industry has unquestionably increased.
However, this progress comes with a number of drawbacks. The "Data Privacy and Security in
the E-Commerce Era" webinar focused on the major hazards linked with digitization, such as
fraud. I wholeheartedly agree that the internet platform is not entirely secure, because
cyberattacks pose significant commercial risks, particularly when online channels are
compromised as a result of a malicious assault or a system breakdown.

Many government and corporate entities are collecting massive volumes of data thanks to rising
processing power and falling data storage prices. Google, Facebook, YouTube, courts, hospitals,
the media, and various government agencies and departments are among the institutions
responsible for generating massive amounts of data. However, having vast amounts of data
comes with a number of issues, including computational complexities, scalability, and data
visualization. Most crucially, as the amount of data grows, so does the level of information
security risk. That, I believe, underscores the significance of numerous laws, rules, and
regulations enacted to protect data privacy and security in the e-commerce era.

Despite the sophisticated barriers and controls built by technology firms and enthusiasts, it is
obvious that various hazards related to data privacy and security remain prevalent, producing
dread and anguish among those who conduct business and transact online. Phishing is the most
common cyber threat to businesses today, followed by malware, disruption cyberattacks, money-
stealing cyberattacks, and fraud. Because of the emergence of privacy and cybersecurity
disruptions in the business, I believe it is in the best interests of eCommerce industry participants
to live in the digital era, where stricter regulations and active enforcement of laws are practiced,
reputational damages and consumer activism are strongly practiced, and financial damages can
be recovered from the party who caused the data privacy and security breaches and disruptions.

Fortunately, there are several techniques to safeguard ourselves from hostile assaults and
fraudulent online transactions. One of the most important things I learned from this webinar was
how to protect yourself from various cybersecurity dangers by exercising proper caution and
practicing safe internet usage. I also agree to refrain from sharing or posting confidential
information on the Internet and to think twice before doing so. Because most of us do not have
the luxury or time to identify the perpetrators and hackers, it is critical for us, as internet users, to
remain watchful and cautious as we embark on the path toward a safe and secure e-Commerce
era.
