News from our Clubs From Bedford and County Golf Club
This organisation, based in Kempston, run, host and support the start-up of
services to meet the needs of local people. Services range from crisis
support all the way through to which empower people to counter isolation,
build relationships, resilience, develop life-skills, be supported / support
others, grow in self-esteem, make positive changes and feel more part of
the community.
The competition was a mixed 4 ball Betterball event with some very
impressive scores. Shaun Staplehurst and Mandy Martin came in
with 49 points but, unbelievably were beaten on countback, by David
and Joe Toes, who also had 49 points.
The morning was followed by an academy course game for the ladies of both courses: we are running monthly
roll up and play “nifty nine” games to mix and meet on the Academy course – much enjoyed by all – usually just
counting putts to take any pressure off newer players. With several new members gaining their first handicaps,
we are also about to have our first short 4-hole competition…to be followed by a Texas scramble, mixing new
and experienced players for bit of fun and an introduction to different types of competition.
Please enter online if possible. On the county website click on ‘upcoming competitions’ and look
for Ladies Seniors Championship. This is the entry form for everyone. Please pay by Bacs if
possible.
If you have trouble entering online either email or post me your form.

Saturday 16th April Helen Masters and Val Freed played the second round
of the Daily Mail Foursomes at Bedfordshire Golf Club. It was a lovely
sunny day and our playing partners Dot and Toni were very nice to go
round with. Unfortunately Helen and I lost the match but we had a lovely
time and enjoyed a well earned drink afterwards on the balcony of the
clubhouse in the sunshine.
Easter Sunday 17th April we played the first major of the year The
Masters Mixed Major Trophy, the format is a mixed betterball. Again it
was a lovely sunny day and we teed off at 10.00am. It was an enjoyable
game and we all appreciated a welcoming drink in the clubhouse
afterwards where Chris (Asst Pro) presented the winners with their
trophy. Congratulations to the winners Monica Miles Stanley and Rob
Impey, second was Helen and Paul Masters and third Val and Malcolm
Freed.
We have had a good response to our Girls Golf Rocks Taster session on
the 7th May and the six week coaching sessions that start on the 21st May
which we are looking forward to hosting.
Eleven Mowsbury ladies enjoyed their annual 3 day visit to Stoke by Nayland. The first round on the Constable course
was an individual stableford and off course with all holiday golf it was full handicap allowance!! The winner was Marina
Allen. The second day on the Gainsborough was a pairs stableford and won by Lilian Wilson and Anne McGregor. The
last day was back on the Constable with a 4 ball waltz!! The winners were Marina Allen, Hazel Hopperton, Sarah Hogg
and Anne McGregor. Many thanks go to Pam Coombs who not only organises all the fun competitions but also arranges
the hotel booking. The weather was kind until the last few holes on the last day!!
We have also played a friendly against Bedford and County Golf Club, unfortunately we lost 4 - 1 but a good days golf
was enjoyed.
Our Medal competitions this month were won by Alicia Hawking and Anne McGregor.
