After reading pages 56-65, describe the role that standards have

in education.

Standards are there to help the teachers teach things that can be seen through state lines

and can be universally used. It allows the knowledge to be mile markers for the teachers to see

where the students are compared to the national standards and what needs more help to

understand.

What would education be like if there were no standards for students?

Education for students would be very diverse and lack some skills that are needed and

will not be ready for other jobs.

Now read the next few sections about big ideas (pages 65-78). What is a big idea and why is it

important to have one when you are teaching?

A big idea is the main concept that we want to teach. It is important to have one because

it will make the lesson better and easier to plan, allowing the students to learn exactly what is

needed.

Choose two content areas (like math and technology or social studies and science) and share a

big idea for each area.

In Math and Science learning to calculate velocity needs to have an understanding of how

the function is formed and how it works. Then you need to know where to apply it.
If you had to choose one overarching big idea that you would want every kid you ever teach to

learn, what would that be?? This might have nothing to do with content.

I would want them to learn to be flexible and strong at the same time as it is the best way

to persevere in a harsh world.

What are the pros and cons of having a 4 task versus a 2 task?

The 4 tasks allow the student to find the information for themself and force them to learn.

The problem with 4 is that some students will want to quit and let others find the information,

The 2 task gives the students the ability to learn the basics of the lesson but not the in depth

knowledge.

Why would I think that a 1 task should be avoided in lessons?

It allows the students to regurgitate the information without knowing the meanings.
