BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Our 1st thesis title proposal is Bee-Live A Proposed Bee Conservation and Research Tourism Farm. But
first let’s watch this video presentation

INTRODUCTION

Generally, we do not take a very close look at the role insects play in making the word a livable place.
Take, for instance, bees. We all know that they produce honey and wax. But also, the bees are the most
important Pollinator in world.

Why is pollination important?

Bees serve as pollinators that allow for the production of seeds, nuts, berries, and fruits. This
relationship forms the foundation of many ecosystems.

And there is at least 1/3 of the world's agricultural crop, depends upon pollination provided by insects
and other animals

Produces honey

Honey is one of the most expensive crops on the planet. The reason is simple; not only is honey a
delicious ingredient that is consumed by itself and added in a wide variety of food and other
condiments, it also has considerable medicinal properties that make it an essential ingredient in
medicines such as cough syrups, cold medication, and weight loss products.

Types of bees in the Philippines

The Philippines is home to some of the most unique species of bees. Five out of nine species of
honeybees in the world are native to the country, some of whom have been domesticated for
agricultural production.

Beekeeping is a business opportunity with social, economic, and ecological benefits that requires
minimal time, labor, and resources. There are four species of honeybee that is best for the Philippines:

1.  Asian Honeybee also locally called laywan

2. Western Honeybee
3. Asian Giant Honeybee commonly called pukyutan
4. Stingless bees/kiwot
And Kiwot has the most expensive honey that is worth P5000 per kilo
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Global and local threats

Bees worldwide are dying out at an alarming rate in recent years due to a combination of man-made
factors. The overuse of pesticides has caused poisoning on bees.

Habitat destruction is also driving wild bee colonies away, as urbanization trends are projected to
intensify in the Philippines.

Lack of Knowledge/Study

Bees are part of the backbone that makes Philippine ecosystems not only productive to strengthen food
security. Yet most Filipinos do not even notice bees unless they need to avoid them. Without improved
measures to protect them, the loss of bees would bring about more than just a sting to the future of the
nation.
Honeybees are not the only types of bees that can pollinate effectively, as we know the Philippines is
blessed with many types of species of bees including the wild bees and the bumblebees which has
different abilities that honeybees cannot possibly do.

Agricultural Price Hikes

The Philippines badly needs these types of solution as we see in the data shown in our presentation.
Based on the Census the Philippine population growth keeps increasing and with our declining
agricultural production, we will be short to supply the needs of our country.

Based on 2015 census data, the population in 2016 in the Philippines was over a 100,981,437. Based on
the 2015 census results, the population increased by over 8 million people when compared to the 2010
census results.

CALABARZON has the biggest population with 14.4 million, trailed by NCR with 12.9 million, and Central
Luzon with 11.2 million. The current population in the Philippines is about 110 million people. With
about 2 million people added to the population every year, the population is expected to double in
about 40 years.

Based on the Asian development outlook, update for the year 2021 the inflation rate of the Philippines
from year 2019 is 2.5% and at year 2020 2.6% and at year 2021 at 4.1% we can say that every year the
inflation rate keeps getting higher. With this continuous inflation Philippines will suffer greatly as years
pass by.

And with the decline of bee population, there will also be a decline in food supply which causes our food
prices to be higher.

This are the architectural solutions we plan to put in our proposal

 Research Facility
 Bee Museum
 Staff Houses
 Warehouse
 Observation Tower
 Bee Café/Restaurant
 Commercial Area
 Viewing Areas
And for our Project Goals and Objectives

1. Saving the bees

By Building Research Centers to help increase bee population and have a conservation of bee
species

2. Securing Food Resource

With the help of bees we are proposing a farm that can also produce food for our country

3. Educating about bees and Apitourism

We will provide for educational trips and seminars to increase awareness about bees and our
ecology. Bee Museum and Flower Garden are considered for plant life and tourist attraction

4. Promote Biodiversity
Not only saving honeybees but also saving other types of bees and pollinators that are needed
to cultivate the land more effectively

5. Provide Economic Income

Beekeeping has a low cost with high profit and with our food crops and Bee Products the facility
could provide a stable source of income for the country

6. Honey and other Bee Products

There are also many uses for honey including medicinal and other products. Owing to
its antibacterial and antioxidant properties, it is widely used in folk medicine.

7. Boost Beekeeping Industry

To help our local bee farmers with there beekeeping strategies and equipment

Conclusion

This proposal will help the be people aware of the importance of nature and environment changing
through learning about the origins of the products and desire to give people good health from the
natural products of bees which can be both food and medicine. This facility will be a new tourist
attraction with the purpose to educate and deliver ideas and products from the natural to external
recipients. This facility aims to introduce the importance of Bee in the environment, on how it can help
agriculture through pollination and how it can help in food provision, educate people, giving more
opportunities to the local farmers and to protect our environment.
