MATERIALS

• 790-417 Lion Brand Homespun Yarn: Great Plains


4 (5, 5, 5, 6) Balls
• Lion Brand Knitting Needles- Size 9 [5.5 mm]
• Lion Brand Knitting Needles - Size 10 [6 mm]
• Large-Eye Blunt Needles (Set of 6)

GAUGE:

14 sts + 16 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in K1, p1 Rib with larger needles. BE SURE TO CHECK
YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size
specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it
takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size
hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

STITCH EXPLANATION
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into
fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog – 1 st decreased.

PATTERN STITCH
K1, p1 Rib (over odd number of sts)
Row 1 (RS): *K1, p1; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.

NOTES:

1. Jacket is worked in 3 pieces, Back, Left Front and Right Front.


2. Each piece is worked beg at the lower edge.
3. When you see 'as established' in the instructions, this means to continue in the current
pattern st.
4. When you see ‘work even’ in the instructions, this means to continue working in the
pattern st you have established without changing the number of sts.
BACK
With larger needles, cast on 71 (77, 85, 91, 97) sts.
Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 8 in. (20.5 cm) from beg,
end with a WS row.
Note: End with a WS row means that the last row you work
should be a WS row, and the next row that you are ready to work
will be a RS row.

Decrease Row (RS): K1, k2tog, work in rib pattern as


established to last 3 sts, ssk, k1 – 69 (75, 83, 89, 95) sts at the
end of this row.
Work even in rib as established until piece measures 15 1/2 in.
(39.5 cm) from beg, end with a WS row.
Rep Decrease Row – 67 (73, 81, 87, 93) sts at the end of this row.
Work even in rib as established until piece measures 23 in. (58.5
cm) from beg, end with a WS row.
Rep Decrease Row – 65 (71, 79, 85, 91) sts at the end of this row.
Work even in rib as established until piece measures 24 in. (61
cm) from beg.
Sleeves
Cast on 23 (23, 23, 25, 25) sts at beg of next 2 rows for sleeves –
111 (117, 125, 135, 141) sts when all sts have been cast on.
Work even in rib as established until sleeve measures 7 (8, 8, 9,
9) in. (18 (20.5, 20.5, 23, 23) cm) from cast on sts of sleeve.
Bind off 12 (12, 12, 13, 13) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 87 (93,
101, 109, 115) sts when all bind offs have been completed.
Bind off 11 (11, 11, 12, 12) sts at beg of next row – 76 (82, 90,
97, 103) sts at the end of this row.
Divide for Neck
Next Row: Bind off first 11 (11, 11, 12, 12) sts, work in rib as
established over next 17 (19, 23, 25, 28) sts, join a 2nd ball of
yarn and bind off center 31 (33, 33, 35, 35) sts for neck, work in
rib as established to end of row – 17 (19, 23, 25, 28) sts for each
side.
You will now be working both sides of the Back at the same time,
each side with a separate ball of yarn.
Next Row: Bind off first 9 (10, 11, 12, 14) sts, work as
established to end of first side; on 2nd side, work as established to
end of row.
Next Row: Bind off first 9 (10, 11, 12, 14) sts, work as
established to end of first side; on 2nd side, work as established to
end of row – 8 (9, 12, 13, 14) sts for each side.
Next Row: Bind off all sts of first side; on 2nd side, work as
established to end of row.
Bind off rem 8 (9, 12, 13, 14) sts.

RIGHT FRONT
With larger needles, cast on 42 (44, 50, 52, 56) sts.
Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 8 in. (20.5 cm) from beg,
end with a WS row.
Decrease Row (RS): Work in rib as established to last 3 sts, ssk,
k1 – 41 (43, 49, 51, 55) sts at the end of this row.
Work even in rib as established until piece measures 15 1/2 in.
(39.5 cm) from beg, end with a WS row.
Rep Decrease Row – 40 (42, 48, 50, 54) sts at the end of this row.
Work even in rib as established until piece measures 23 in. (58.5
cm) from beg, end with a WS row.
Rep Decrease Row – 39 (41, 47, 49, 53) sts at the end of this row.
Work even in rib as established until piece measures 24 in. (61
cm) from beg, end with a RS row.
Sleeve

Shape Neck
Next Row: Bind off 12 (12, 13, 13, 14) sts for neck, work to end
of row – 27 (29, 34, 36, 39) sts.
Next Row: Bind off 9 (10, 11, 12, 14) sts for sleeve, work to end
of row – 18 (19, 23, 24, 25) sts.
Bind off 10 (10, 11, 11, 11) sts at beg of next row for neck.
Bind off rem 8 (9, 12, 13, 14) sts.

LEFT FRONT
With larger needles, cast on 42 (44, 50, 52, 56) sts.
Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 8 in. (20.5 cm) from beg,
end with a WS row.
Decrease Row (RS): K1, k2tog, work in rib as established to end
of row – 41 (43, 49, 51, 55) sts at the end of this row.

Work even in rib as established for 1 row.
Next Row: Bind off 11 (11, 11, 12, 12) sts, work to end of row –
39 (41, 47, 49, 53) sts.
Shape Neck
Next Row: Bind off 12 (12, 13, 13, 14) sts for neck, work to end
of row – 27 (29, 34, 36, 39) sts.
Next Row: Bind off 9 (10, 11, 12, 14) sts for sleeve, work to end
of row – 18 (19, 23, 24, 25) sts.
Bind off 10 (10, 11, 11, 11) sts at beg of next row for neck.
Bind off rem 8 (9, 12, 13, 14) sts.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.
Neck Edging
From RS with smaller needles, beg at Right Front neck, pick up and k83 (85, 87, 89, 91) sts evenly spaced around
neck edge, ending at Left Front neck.
Work in K1, p1 Rib for 1 1/2 in. (4 cm). Bind off.
Sleeve Edging
From RS with smaller needles, pick up and k45 (47, 49, 51, 53) sts evenly spaced across lower edge of sleeve. Work
in Garter st (k every row), for 3 in. (7.5 cm). Bind off.
Sew side and sleeve seams, including edging. Weave in ends.
