PLAGIARISM AND ACADEMIC
DISHONESTY

This class will be conducted in accordance with the college student code
of conduct and basic standards of academic honesty. Cheating, plagiarism,
or other forms of academic dishonesty are not acceptable.
▪ Cheating includes giving or receiving answers from another student’s
work, quiz, exam, or any other assignment.
▪ Plagiarism involves submitting work written by someone else and
claiming that you have written it even if you have changed the words
around. Using Internet sources and not giving them credit also counts as
plagiarism.

All work should reflect your original ideas and writing. While it is

acceptable to seek help from a teacher or tutor in areas such as grammar

or punctuation, it is not okay for anyone to complete your work for you or
write any portion of your paper. It is good to use outside sources in your
writing, but any words that are not your own must be properly cited.

If academic dishonesty takes place, a meeting will be required. Depending

on the situation, you may have the opportunity to redo the assignment. If
it happens again, you will receive a zero (0) and the Department Chair,
Dean of Liberal Arts, and Dean of Student Affairs will be notified about the
incident in writing. Any further occurrences can result in a failing grade (F)
in the course and further academic disciplinary procedures.

From my years of experience teaching English, I can tell you it is very easy
to note plagiarism. My number one goal is to support you along the way in
your writing and other assignments. If you have questions, or you are
unsure if something is plagiarism, please feel free to talk with me.
