1. What is the predominant tone of the play?

Because most of the conversations concentrate around Kulas and Celing figuring
out how to break Kulas' gambling problem, the play has a hopeful predominant tone.

2. What are the significant traits of Celing and Kulas?

2.1. Celing: Celing is a firm and pragmatic woman who is also a loving and caring wife.

2.2. Kulas: Is a typical gambler who would put his money on the line merely to keep his
cockfighting addiction alive. At the end of the day, he's Celing's faithful and
loving spouse.
3. What are the significant traits of each of the minor characters?

3.1. Sioning: Sioning plays the role of the neutral or the one who balances the other
characters' sides. Before taking a stand or explaining anything, she listens to each
character's point of view. Personally, I believe she is an excellent bestfriend to have.

3.2. Castor: Castor is the mischievous and self-centered one. He's brave enough to cheat,
and ruthless enough to cheat on his friend for his own good. He's a character who'll
almost certainly be a bad guy.

3.3 Teban: Teban is a fascinating figure. He's constantly loyal to his superiors, especially
Celing. He's the group's most innocent and truthful member.

4. What is the main conflict or tension in the story/play?

Conflict (external or internal) in a story is a struggle between opposing forces. It usually
presents the ‘problem’ that needs to be solved in the story. Characters must act to confront those
forces and there is where conflict is born. NOTE: If there is nothing to overcome, there is no story.
Thus, conflict in a story creates and drives the plot forward.

When Kulas attempted to overcome his cockfighting addiction is, I believe, the
main tension in the play. When Celing, his wife, is assisting her in quitting, but his friend
and he remain committed to his money-squandering pastime.

5. What are the sources of humor in this play? Provide at least two.
A. Humor from superstitions in cockfighting
B. Humor about dreams

6. How does the story end? What is the surprise twist in the end?
The story ended after Kulas promised that he would never participate in
cockfighting again, Kulas agreed to cook all of his roosters._

7. What are the social and cultural traditions reflected in the play?
One of the cultural practices represented in the drama, I believe, is cockfighting.
Cockfighting was first documented in the Philippines around 1500, as far as I know. The
first visit of Magellan, in 1521. With all of this in mind, we may conclude that
cockfighting is one of the oldest and best-preserved traditions still in use today. The
roles of the husband and wife are another tradition that might be practiced at home.
Husbands, as Celing emphasized, should be the breadwinners in their households. It is,
after all, your money. Wives are in charge of house activities like as cooking and
budgeting, as a symbol of respect for their husband's labor.

8. What superstitions about cockfighting are depicted in the play?

Some cockfighting superstitions are mentioned in the play. People have made
decisions based on their dreams, such as when Kulas dreamed of being chased by a
white carabao. Another fascinating superstition is what Castor told Kulas: "Once you
prick it, the leg will be weak... No one will notice what we did, but that leg is weak now,
and the cock can no longer strike with it." The superstition states that if the cock's
ligaments are pricked by the needle, the cock's legs will become weak and it will be
unable to fight back.

9. What is the role of a wife in a typical Filipino family as shown in the play? Cite
evidence from the play.

In a typical Filipino family, the role of a wife is typically serving her husband,
doing household chores, taking care of their children, budgeting and managing
expenses. This can be seen in the role of ceiling from her lines: Well, here, take this, After
all, it’s your money, I am only being careful…” It shows how ceiling managing the money
her husband provided. As well as the part where Sonia asks ceiling to accompany her to
the market and when ceiling said to her husband to cook an adobo and make and
chicken broth. These evidences from the play mentioned are what a typical Filipino
housewife does as her roles.
