The Amazon River, which is located in South America and has the largest water discharge,
has a length of 6,516 km. This river flows through the interior of the Peruvian jungle and across
Brazil to the Atlantic Ocean. The Amazon River was named by a Spanish soldier named Francisco de
Orellana in 1541. This river area is included in a dangerous area, because it is found the habitat of
terrible animals that are difficult to find in other areas. According to some studies the Amazon river is
located in the highlands close to the Andes mountains and originates from three rivers in Peru.
The three rivers, namely the Mantaro river which originates from a further upstream, the
Apurimac river which is seen without any disturbance source, and the last is the Maranon river which
is the main source based on the total volume. The river that stretches from the heart of the Amazon
forest to the foot of the Andes mountains makes the Amazon river valley one of the largest rivers in
the world. This river is also known to pass through a number of regions such as Ecuador, Colombia,
Venezuela, Brazil and ends up crossing the coast in the Atlantic.
The Amazon River discharges the largest volume of water into the Atlantic ocean. It is known
that the Amazon river has a water discharge amount greater than the total discharge of the seven
largest rivers in the world. This river also represents about 20% of global river discharge that is
carried towards the sea. Having a fairly large amount of water discharge, of course, makes the
Amazon river has many tributaries that span it. It counts about 1,100 tributaries with 17 of them
having a length of about 1,500 kilometers.
There are several areas that still have residents, this river is often used as a place of
transportation for residents in the vicinity, especially when they want to go to the forest. When the
rainfall is high, the Amazon river can overflow up to as high as 9 meters. The river which also has a
width of 5 kilometers can grow to reach 30 kilometers in just a few weeks. Having a wide
environment and located deep in the forest certainly makes the Amazon river a home for the animals
that inhabit it.
The Amazon River is home to more than 2,000 species of fish in the world and has more than
400 amphibians. Some wildlife such as piranha fish, arapaima, river dolphins, bull sharks to black
caimans live and live there. The black caiman or commonly called the Black Caiman is known as a
black crocodile that has a body weight greater than the size of a crocodile in general. Black Caiman
also does not hesitate to prey on any living creature that enters its waters.
