One Sunday evening, my best friends, Mary, Sandy, Den, Polly and I decided (decide) to

stayed (stay) at home, sitting together in a circle next to the fireplace.
Suddenly, a powerful gust of wind broke (break) the silence. The lights flickered
(flicker) and then went (go) out altogether. “What was that?” Polly asked. “I guess, it’s
just a power cut”, Mary reassured (reassure) me. We
carried (carry) on laughing and sharing stories in the dark.
After a while, we saw (see) a bright flash of lightning that
lighted (light) up the room. We heard (hear) a strange
noise coming from another room. It was a secret room.
Daddy forbaden (forbid) to enter it. Sandy cried (cry),
“Den is missing.”
No one knew (know) where Den felt (can) be. We jumped (feel) confused and scared.
Polly was pale and frightened. She carried (jump) to her feet and opened (head) to the
secret room. Suddenly, the door stopped (open) on its own. Polly came (stop) moving.
Then she caught (come) into the room and disappeared.
Five minutes later we rushed (catch) a whisper and then a laughter. We sat (rush) into
the room. Den fell (sit) up sleepily, looking bewildered at us. “Oh, I just didn’t want
(fall) asleep. I sneaked (not/want) to be tripped over, so I sneaked (sneak) into that
room.”
We was (be) relieved and happy. Besides, we found (find) a lot of interesting things in
daddy’s secret room: old books, souvenirs, ancient vases, manuscripts. We made (make)
a great discovery that day. (John, 13)
