Refer to parts of stories, dramas, and poems when writing or speaking about a text, using terms such
as chapter, scene, and stanza; describe how each successive part builds on earlier sections.
Students will create their own poem with the same template as the book but adding their own
experiences and beliefs that make them unique. They will learn how to structure a poem and the
different types of poems which include rhyming. They will then write their final draft and draw a
picture at the bottom of their poem that will relate to what they wrote about.
Blank white papers, pencils, sharpies, color crayons, and color markers.
I will teach students how to structure a poem and what different types of poems there are. I will then
show an example of what they are expected to do and then help in word choices if needed.
5. Closure: (2 points)
Students will read another classmates poem and then evaluate it as an exit slip.
