Case Study

Khalil is a 5 year old boy who loves basketball, football, and hanging with his family.
He doesn’t like high pressure situations and at times when he has to sit still. He really
enjoys math and science over reading and writing. This is due to the more hands-on
activities that are provided in those two subjects. He is on track in all of the school
subjects. He does really enjoy talking to his classmates and interacting with whoever
he is near. He sometimes struggles to finish his work during work time due to
interactions he likes to have. He dislikes high pressure situations because it causes
him to feel stressed and overwhelmed and would rather be provided with a calm
environment. He comes from a single parent household with one older brother.

Interview with Mr.
Tisdel
How do you prepare for Parent Teacher Conferences?

“We start early since we have 114 kids, we then have a sheet we pass around and we write
comments on it for that particular kid in case we don’t get to meet the parents at their
meeting. Then we divide the kids up so they know who to go to depending on their LifeEd
teacher. Then we just talk to the parents as they come for 15 minutes”

How do you deliver positive and negative news to a parent/guardian?

“There is a coach that has this philosophy Bill Self that we try to follow which is deliver a
positive, then a negative, then follow it up with a positive”
