COMPUTER AIDED CIVIL ENGINEERINGDESIGN

COURSE PURPOSE:
The purpose of this course is:
 To familiarize students with the concept of Civil engineering drawing, the common
engineering communication tool among the engineering community. Students, after
taking this course, will be able to express their engineering concepts by using
engineering drawings.

 They will be able to interpret different Civil Engineering Drawing.

 Students would be able to use different drawing tools (Computer Aided), to express their
design effectively.

COURSE OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES:


Upon completion of this course the student will be able to do the following:
1. An ability to communicate effectively through drawing/design using drawing tools
(Computer Aided).
2. An ability to interpret different Civil Engineering Drawing.

TOPICS COVERED:
a. Civil Engineering drawing
General description of drawing related to civil engineering projects, e.g. hydraulic
structures, drainage structures, highway and motorway drawings.
b. Building Drawing
Elements of architectural planning and design, conceptual, schematic and
working drawings and details of residential, commercial, religious,
recreational, industrial, clinical, hospital, and educational buildings, Details
of doors windows, staircases etc.
c. Structural Drawing
Elements of structural drawing and detailing: Preparation of foundation plan,
structural framing, slab details, staircase details, water tanks, beam and column
elevations and sections mostly pertaining to reinforced concrete structures.
Details of steel roof truss, connection details and fabrication drawings,
Design Project:
1. Architectural drawings of building
2. Structural Drawings of building
3. Housing Scheme
4. Interpretation of drawings related to Highways and Railways
5. Interpretation of Hydraulic Structure Drawings e.g. barrages and its components, Dams etc.
