Explanation Texts

 Purpose: to explain how and why something in the world happens by using texts.
 Types: Have various different types of explanation
 Some examples:
1. The first one is the type that explains an occurrence or how something works. Usually
this type is used to explain something like how a lawn mower works, how a computer
works etc.
2. The second one is the type that explains why things happen. The example is like why
objects expand and contract.
3. The third one is the type that explains the similarities and differences between objects.
In this text they didn't gave the examples though.
4. The last one is the type that explains how to approach a problem that has to be
resolved. This type usually links with science and technology topics or natural and
non-natural phenomenon or even human society and environment. For example why
earthquakes occur, or how cheese is processed from milk.
 Explanation texts are written by members of a number of professions to explain
processes. Like how medical researchers write explanation for doctors and nurses.
 Explanation texts’ structure:
1. Title: prepares and leads the reader to the text.
2. General statement: Introducing or identifying the phenomenon; the first paragraphs
that introduces or identifies the scientific or technical phenomenon.
3. Series of sequenced paragraphs: Explained how or why things happened. It focused
more about why or how something happens rather than an object.
4. Concluding statement: An optional statement to tie up the explanation.
5. Labeled diagrams and flow charts: Used to clarify the information or to add optional
information.
