Classroom Climate Activity

Christy Fremgen

1. Questions to consider and answer when drawing your classroom

A. Desk will be arranged in rows in the center of the room surrounded by the lab tables
which will border the room.
B. There will be three action zones. The first will be my demonstration lab table at the
head of the room then the students’ desks which will routinely change position. The
third will be the smart board where I plan to incorporate a decent number of media.
C. Door will be north to the smart door away from the desks. Windows (if I am in a
room with windows will be on the back wall.
D. Wall one will have challenge questions on it that will change weekly or monthly and
a question/review board for students to post on. Wall two will have several different
pieces of relevant points of interest modern day students can link to chemistry such as
how car engines tie in with chemistry, thing to make the science relevant. Wall three
will have resources such as periodic table, tips and tricks for all the memorizations.
E. Smart board at the head of the room.

2. Class rules
a. Respect one another, pay attention to one another during discussion.
b. Be in your class for the bell
c. Come to class prepared (unless special cases let me know)
d. Try your best
e. Let me know if you need to use the bathroom, I will write a pass.
3. Handing in papers procedure (homework)
a. All papers are due at the end of class
b. Name must be on paper to receive credit
c. You do not have to show work, but you will not receive partial credit without it
d. Paper must be placed in the bin on the demo desk before you leave the room, or
you will not receive credit.
4. I will utilize a combination of open-ended answer questions and multiple-choice tests
5. I want to create a very collaborative community that can freely bounce ideas off one
another. I plan to start this with effectively sizing groups so all groups are conversating as
a whole as opposed to groups being so large that someone is left a bystander. I plan to do
a daily discuss led by rotating groups of a quick review of the previous day’s material. I
also plan to encourage students to ask questions as well as attempt to answer them.
6. Find a bully prevention program and discuss what you have found. Would that work in
your classroom? (Describe the program. How you will use this in the classroom?)
7. Classroom management is important because it keeps the students on task and directly
affects an educator’s ability to teach. Without management there would be no
organization of set instructional and engaged time.
8. To maximize learning I will try to create minimal uninstructed time. I will try to make an
outlined plan for everyday so there is a procedure that students know should be followed.
9. I would love to provide online calendar for the parents as well as volunteer opportunities
if my district allows it.
10. For misbehaviors, since I want to teach young adults, I would like there to be a
consequential step system in place, however not something like being sent to the
principal because I feel like in a lot of causes that does not solve much. I saw a video of a
teacher that made “Brain Bucks” for good behavior and attendance. However, students
also needed to use this to pay “rent”. Additionally, these bucks were taken for
misbehaviors I am leaning towards something similar but more real world applicable
since I will be at a high school level.
