I can identify the difference

between a folktale and non-fiction

text.

I can identify acts of courage in

the text and within my own life.

I can compare and contrast two or

more versions of the same story
by different authors or from
different cultures.
Background Information:
Our book today is fiction. It is a folktale told long ago by the
Algonquin tribe. It is about a girl whose face is scarred by fire, so
she is no longer pretty. The title of the book is The Rough-Face Girl,
and you can see how she hides her face. It was written by Rafe
Martin and illustrated by David Shannon. The story takes place near
Lake Ontario.

After we read today, I'll

ask you to write a
message to the girl in the
story. Think about what
you'd like to tell her.
Turn and Talk:

Should the Rough-Face Girl

give up and go home?

Let's hear some opinions.

Next time, we'll find out what

she did!

Cinderella in France or Rough Face Girl?
Choose which version of Cinderella you would like to
create in your own way. You will be given a sheet of paper
and I want you to create a background of the setting
where your story is taking place. Please be as creative as
possible! You make use markers, crayons, or colored
pencils. Tomorrow, you will be creating your characters
with some different types of materials. You will have 15
minutes to complete this task. Have fun!
