Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Students will be instructed to create and attach a transcript that lines
up with the podcast that they create. Providing a transcript allows students who may be hard of hearing /
deaf the ability to read what their classmates are discussing throughout their podcast. Additionally, the
transcripts help students who are more visual learners rather than auditory learners. Physically creating the
product provides students with a kinesthetic experience to learn the content of the health lesson.

Lesson idea implementation: This lesson will consist of assigning students to create their very own
podcast. The teacher will have a list which contains a variety of health topics for the students to choose from
– and they will also have the option of coming up with their own topic (which must be approved by the

teacher first). The teacher will give students 10-15 minutes to research their specific health topic with a
partner. They will then be given the rest of the class-period to write out their script and record their audio.
The students will be assessed on their creativeness – and their overall ability to create a podcast. They will be
assessed on their editing skills, must add music, and must add at least one sound. Additionally, their topic
must tie into their audio and the teacher must understand their reasoning for their topic choice. The teacher
will provide students feedback on ScreenCastify so that students can see and understand what the teacher
thought they did well on, and what they may need to improve on. This is much better than a simple “good
work” note. I will differentiate learning in my students by giving them the opportunity to take ownership over
what they decide to talk about. This allows for students to engage in this activity no matter their personal
background. I will help student learning by letting them discover how to research their own topics and put
this information together in order to create their own audio tools and podcasts.

Importance of technology: Using the tool “Anchor” to complete this project is crucial. Without this easy-to-
use audio tool, I wouldn’t have been able to record, edit, or publish my podcast (and neither would the
students). Other types of technology that the students will be using throughout the lesson are their laptops or
phones to look up information for their podcast and record on “Anchor”.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Prior to beginning the lesson, I will have a class
announcement/discussion where I explain the dangers of sharing personal information on the internet.
Additionally, I will have the students ask me a question if needed when they aren’t sure about something and
are worried about their privacy. I will also explain things to look out for, and things to stay away from when
using the internet. I will be letting the students’ parents know that their child will be using their device to look
up information and will ask if they could talk to their child about the dangers of sharing personal information
to anyone. Finally, I will make sure the students know to keep their private life private and not share any
personal information on their PodCast, as it will be published to the internet.

Reflective Practice: I believe that the activities I create will impact student learning by giving them a wide
variety of topics, and having them listen to their classmates’ podcasts as well as creating their own. This will
create an engaging workspace in the classroom, where students build great communication skills and overall
creativeness. In order to further extend this lesson, I could have the students write 2 things they learned
when listening to their classmates’ podcasts.
