Exports and imports are related to economic activities in the trade sector in the
ASEAN region

Most of you must have heard or learned about the meaning of export and import.
These export and import activities have an important role in a country and are closely
related to economic activities in the trade sector in a country. When buying or selling
goods, we know the terms export and import. Launching the Export & Import
Guidebook (2018), in simple terms, import is the activity of entering goods from
abroad into the country. For example, designer clothes from France, bicycles made in
England, soybeans from the United States, and all imported goods entering Indonesia
from abroad. People or companies that issue goods or carry out export activities are
called exporters. In international trade, export and import activities are supervised
and managed by the customs agency. Customs in Indonesia, namely the Directorate
General of Customs and Excise under the Ministry of Finance, collects duties on goods
that come out and enter.

Exports and imports are also carried out by Indonesia with other ASEAN countries.
This activity is generally carried out by a country if the country is able to produce
goods in large enough quantities and the number of these goods has been fulfilled
domestically, so that it can be sent to countries that are unable to produce these
goods or because the amount of production cannot meet the demand. The needs of
the people of the destination country.

The products are exported and imported by each ASEAN country. The products are

machinery and equipment. Exports: rubber, palm oil, tin, petroleum, timber, and
textiles.

soybeans, tea, sugar, coal, rubber, fisheries, and crude oil. Products imported and
exported from Laos. Imports: construction materials, machinery, fuel, food,
vehicles and spare parts, production equipment, and consumer goods. Exports:
agriculture, gold, copper and mining products, wood and wood products, and
clothing. Products imported and exported from Myanmar. Imports: fertilizers,
cement, machinery and equipment, and textiles. Exports: rice, copper, gold, tin,
zinc, silver, new gems, nickel, natural gas, rice, and rubber. Products imported and
exported from Cambodia. Imports: tobacco, textiles, garments, pulp and paper,
pharmaceuticals, food and beverage products, and building materials. Exports:
rubber, rice, timber, oil and gas, and gemstones.

These export and import activities must be carried out with careful funding or
budget calculations, so that each procedure can be passed easily. In export and
import activities generally require the intervention of customs. Not all countries
are able to meet the needs of their respective countries. Therefore, export-import
activities are very beneficial for each country.

From the information above, it can be concluded that import-export activities are
very vital for every country. Because with this activity, the country can meet the
needs of its people which cannot be produced in its own country. Therefore, there
is not a single country in the world that does not carry out export or import
activities.
